Doxycycline frequent hyclate urination

Mast cell, abx, and pilonidal abscess

2024.05.29 06:47 SpenserRoberts Mast cell, abx, and pilonidal abscess

47M, 5'0, 125. No smoking, alcohol, or recreational drugs.]
The primary issue is the pilonidal abscess - it's infected, and it's MRSA. I also have Mast Cell Activation Disorder so my body reacts with anaphylaxis to pretty much anything you can think of.
We tried doxycycline first and I ended up in the ER getting stabbed with Epipens. We are now trying Bactrim, 1 tab 2x daily for 10 days - and I am only on day three and hitting some of the more worrisome side effects as listed in the PDR on the manufacturer's tearsheet. Dry mouth, increased thirst, frequent urination, dizziness. My doc is on vacation (of course).
I also take Hydrocort 5m 1x daily to help with possible mast cell stabilizer. And testosterone cyp, 1/2mls every 10 days
Should I keep taking this med knowing that failure to do so will result in more infection and another I&D? Try an urgent care for an alternate med - if any? Go IV?
Thanks in advance to any who answer.

2024.05.29 04:50 SignificanceNext2483 Recurring UTIs

I have a 1 year and 11 month old Pembroke welsh corgi who started having recurring utis after her first heat cycle last year in May. We took her to the vet after her cycle finished and noticed she was still peeing blood and looked to struggle while peeing. They did blood work, an X-ray, ultrasound, urinalysis and urine culture and deemed it a uti so they prescribed her antibiotics and it went away for a couple of months.
This past December it started up again after her cycle, she started peeing out blood clots this time. We took her to the vet again and they did blood work (which came out normal), both urine tests X-ray and ultrasound. From the ultrasound they diagnosed her with pyometra. They recommended to do an ovariohysterectomy which we went through with hoping it’d help solve her urine issues. After the surgery she went home with antibiotics and she was fine again until this past month.
We noticed she started peeing frequently and it had a fishy odor to it so we took her to the vet again where they did an X-ray, bloodwork, and both urine tests. We were sent home with a 10 day course of antibiotics and the infection came back again 3 weeks after we finished the medication. We recently just came back from a trip but prior we had requested for a medication refill since it had came back right when we were leaving. When we got back from our trip, she just finished her antibiotics again. Today I noticed that she’s peeing frequently and saw some blood in her urine again.
I just want to know what might be causing it especially since she’s so young. According to her last X-ray and blood work, there’s nothing wrong with her kidneys, no stones/crystals in her urine either. We did do an extra test last time to see if she has cancer which did come back positive, but we were told it’s only 70% accurate and it could’ve been a false positive since she was peeing blood. We do plan on taking her to the vet again to retest for cancer and do an ultrasound of her bladder as recommended by the vet but it’s been so costly each time. We’ve tried extra precautions towards trying to prevent her utis. We try to wipe her down with chlorhexidine wipes after she uses the restroom and make sure she drinks plenty of water and gets let out to use the restroom often.

2024.05.29 04:47 Background_Airline39 Could this be an imbedded UTI?

Hi there! 26F here and for the last month I’ve been having a lot of UTI anxiety, despite numerous negative tests. I’ve had urinary problems since July, with frequent BV and Ureaplasma infections. I have those under control now with medication and an appointment on Tuesday the 4th to get reswabbed. For the last two weeks I’ve been having feelings of frequent urination and like I’m not empty? I’m not sure if that makes any sense… I’ve been to the dr twice and got two negative cultures back. Just the normal “mixed genital flora not indicative of a urinary tract infection”. Then this last Friday I got so fed up with the feeling that I went to the urgent care even though my urologist asked me not to do that anymore so I’m not taking unnecessary antibiotics. They did the dip test and that just came back with trace amounts of leukocytes and nothing else, and prescribed me 5 days of macrobid. I am currently taking a BV medication tho so they said they were pretty sure the trace amount was from that, and two days later my culture comes back negative.
My urologist and gyno told me today to stop the antibiotic that looking over my results they really doubt I had a UTI and pretty much chalked it up to anxiety. I am supposed to go on vacation this weekend and I am terrified. All I do is worry about having to pee and feel like I have to pee. I have anxiety that I am currently being treated for and plan to bring this up with my therapist this week but any tips would be greatly appreciated!

2024.05.29 04:34 blackhole265 [CA] sufficient evidence for negligence??

female type 1 diabetic.
I was admitted to a an er for suicidal ideation. I was being held on a 5150, upon arrival I told staff that I was sexually assaulted by an adult male. I would like to sue the hospital for negligence as well as emotional distress.
My bloodsugar reached over 350mg/dL for extended periods of time. This resulted in me having headaches, nausea, extreme thirst, blurred & frequent urination. After asking the nurse in charge of my care to confer with my endocrinologist or a specialist, they declined to do so. While I was there despite hospital policy they made me put my insulin pump on and take charge of giving myself boluses and essentially taking care of my own diabetes. I believe that any trained endocrinologist will tell you that their use of insulin was extremely dangerous, one of the times being where they switched in between giving me long acting and short acting to the point my bloodsugar was 56mg/mL.
Even though I was on a 5150 hold, I even have pictures of the CNAs who were supposed to be watching me sleep. They left equipment with long cords, which only further grew my suicidal ideation. And furthered the anxiety.
A male doctor came into my room placing his hand on my butt and shaking me to “get my attention”. He came in very aggressive which only heightened my anxiety, after seeing responding was not resulting in a resolution I stopped talking and just laid in my bed facing away from him playing 8 ball on my phone. Once I stopped responding to his threats of “them doing whatever they want to”. He grabbed my arm forcefully again and tried snatching my phone out of my hand. I turned further on to my side from the force- then looked at him while his hand was still on me and told I wasn’t going to touch him but he needed to get his hands off of me. I tossed my phone on the ground and told him he could take it and I wouldn’t fight it. I then said goodbye which I guess struck a nerve. As he was headed for the door he turned back and a bunch of grown men 6-9 grabbed me at his command. Before they grabbed me I was simply laying on my bed under the blankets on my side not moving. During this there was a person holding my wrist and bending it, to which I screamed out repeatedly that I was being hurt. I screamed repeatedly for them to get off of me, and my screams for help fell on deaf ears. After this I was left sobbing and visibly shaking from the trauma of being held down. The following night, I could not sleep despite being giving melatonin due to feeling them pinning me down everytime my eyes would shut. This has lead me to be afraid to seek further help for my mental health treatment. I was dismissed the following day.

2024.05.29 02:46 Visual-Wish-6317 Lots of issues w/ bloodwork

My dog Lucky, a rescue, has been gaining weight and is generally lethargic. I switched her from Kirkland to Iams dogfood to see if it helped, but finally took her to the vet after no improvement. Appetite is still there, no excessive drinking, solid poop usually, no bleeding from gums or anything. She doesn’t seem at deaths door, just sleeps a lot. Also had a yeast infection in her ear. I finally took her to the vet and her blood work was alarming. I’d appreciate any insights. I’m treating her ear infection with otomax. She is currently on doxycycline since 5/20/24 to treat for any bacterial infections such as leptospirosis (she was vaccinated for it in 2022) and I’m starting her on thyroid meds tomorrow. I’ve been instructed to collect a urine sample and am hoping to get that to the vet tomorrow. Here are her current results 5/28/24: RBC low - 5.26 M/uL MCH high - 26.9 pg BASO normal - 0.02 K/uL PLT low 63 K/uL PCT low 0.06% SDMA high 15ug/dL CREA high 1.9 mg/dL TT4 low <0.5 ug/dL
She was tested 5/20/24 with an improvement in BASO by 0.10 K/uL, PLT by 5 K/uL and CREA by 0.1 mg/dL on 5/28/24 and worsening in everything else except SDMA which remained constant.
5/20/24 results RBC low - 5.36 M/uL MCH high - 26.7 pg BASO high 0.12 K/uL PLT low 58 K/uL PCT low 0.08% SDMA high 15ug/dL CREA high 1.8 mg/dL TT4 not tested 5/20/24
Any insight is appreciated. Thank you thank you thank you 🙏

2024.05.29 01:26 SlickWilly69420 Is further testing necessary for my dog? 3 rounds in already.

My dog is 7 years old, male, 54 lbs and slightly overweight by about 1-2 lbs. For the past 2.5 months, he has been drinking and increased amount of water, practically chugging any that we give him unless we tell him to stop or slow down. Along with that has come more frequent and higher volumes of urination. Urine is clear every time, no dark or red colors, and other behaviors have not changed at all.
2 weeks ago, he had some bare spots appear on his rear-end. Took him to the vet for that and the drinking/urination. The skin condition is being treated and we are doing testing for the root issue of his water consumption. We collected a base blood sample and urinalysis, and the only value that came back abnormal was the T-4. It came back a bit low, so we tested for Hypothyroidism. That test came back as a negative for hypothyroidism.
We have been able to rule out kidney failure, liver failure, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. Now the vet is wanting to test for Cushing's Disease. The cost is a good bit higher, which isn't necessarily a reason to avoid this test, I just don't want to keep pursuing tests that come back negative. Vet also wants to test for another form of diabetes if the Cushing's test is negative. What advice do you have for pursuing my vet's plan going forward?

2024.05.29 01:20 RecordLegume Any suggestions on what to do for a 5 year old that pees pants out of laziness?

My 5 year old son frequently urinates in his pants just barely to relieve the pressure of a full bladder. It’s enough that he has a spot a bit larger than a half dollar on the outside of his pants, sometimes it’s more. We took him to the doctor and he has no issues. No urethral or bladder issues, not constipated, everything is clear. She said it’s likely behavioral and suggested a few things to try that did not help.
My son is able to explain to me that he does it because he doesn’t feel like getting up from what he’s doing or go inside if he’s playing outside. He poops just fine. He simply says “I feel like I need to pee but I don’t want to stop playing so I go just a little in my pants so I don’t feel like I have to pee anymore.” We have tried rewarding him with a toy if he goes so many days without an accident. We’ve tried practically re-potty training him using the commando method, which works wonderfully while he is actively naked, but he is back to old habits when he is clothed. We have tried consequences and losing of privileges which also helps for a day or so but then he’s back to not caring. He smells like old urine and I’m tired of my house smelling like it. He won’t tell me when he has had an accident, just casually walks around like Billy Madison. I think he’s just so used to the feeling of it. He does not do it at school, when he is with friends, out in public, at grandparents, etc. I asked him why, and he said “I don’t want them to see that I have a pee spot on me.” So he’s obviously in full control. He wakes up in the morning saying he won’t pee his pants today but he does it every day, multiple times a day. He’s gone through 3 sets of shorts and underwear today alone. What on earth do I do?

2024.05.29 01:07 Alarmed-Window-5457 Negative gram stain NGU but still have urethritis (burning sensation when urinating).

I recently diagnosed with NGU (non-gonococcal urethritis) an STD not caused by gonorrhea. After completing 14 days of doxycycline I was tested again to check if the infection was still there and it was already negative. My concern is that I still feel burning sensation when I am urinating. What would be the possible reason why even though my tests were already negative?

2024.05.29 01:06 AlfalfaBusiness7999 Consistent Burning

Consistent Burning
I’ve been dealing with consistent burning since February of this year. Woke up one morning with an icy cold feeling in my urethra, unable to hold my urine for most of the day. Took a UTI test and came out positive for leukocytes but negative for nitrates and that’s where the nightmare began. Since then I’ve seen a few different doctors, I was on seven days of Cipro, seven days of doxycycline and then another seven days of moxifloxacin. I’ve done multiple different urine and std test all came out negative. Even did an ultrasound and that looked normal. I’ve been diagnosed by multiple different doctors with multiple different things. First it was urethritis then it became prostatitis. Then it became pelvic floor dysfunction and at this point, I’m totally lost. The only symptom that I’ve had consistently is this burning sensation in my urethra at all times whether or not I’m peeing, so I decided to take this test at home. I showed my primary care. He didn’t think much of so didn’t prescribe me any antibiotics. I have an appointment coming up with a urologist in my state that apparently has looked at this test in the last 60 days. My fear is that he’s gonna look at it and not prescribe me anything. does anything look out of the ordinary? I’m desperate…. This was all found in the semen sample nothing in urine.

2024.05.29 00:57 Liath13 PPROM vs pee vs vaginal discharge?

I'm 16 weeks pregnant FTM. For the past week, I've had an increase in discharge that comes about every other day. It is worse when I wear my belly support (Bao Bei bloomers) and is sometimes accompanied by cramping and frequent urination. It's clear mostly and thin. It does have odor to it - can't tell if it smells like pee or just has a strong vaginal odor. It can fill a panty liner on a bad day, but it's not like soaking through to the underwear or going anywhere else past it.
I do have a retroverted uterus and was having some difficulty with urinary retention a couple weeks ago, so I'm hoping it's urine leaking.
If anyone has experienced their water breaking super early, did it come out every day or somewhat irregularly? Was it truly odorless?
If you had an early pregnancy infection (yeast, BV, etc), what was that like?
Any experiences on peeing yourself in small quantities?

2024.05.29 00:34 Specific_Ad_9992 Help and advice please

This is my story so far. About 3-4 weeks ago I had a day of horrible bloating in my lower colon on my left side. So much air that would just build up, release, then come right back. While going through this I noticed I started feeling like I needed to pee ( figured from so much air and pressure) my abdomen literally could not go out any farther and it was so uncomfortable. Days after I took a good amount of magnesium citrate and cleared my colon. But noticed the urge to urinate was still very frequent. Then it developed into spasm feelings on and off, eventually urethral pain after peeing, sometimes for hours unless I absolutely chugged water, then it felt only slightly uncomfortable but I could still tell something was off. Through the day I have urgency and on and off mild to moderate urethra vaginal pain. Not so much pain really with urinating, just after especially in the morning when my urine is more concentrated. Gets better as I chug water through the day but sometimes I’ll still get urethra pain/spasms. I cut out coffee and gluten. Basically no dairy except for Kefir for my gut issues since those are a thing on top of this. The IC symptoms are new and not something I’ve dealt with in the past. It also developed about a month after returning from Aruba. My question is does this seem like sudden onset of IC? Or potential ureaplasma/mycoplasma? Since the symptoms are very similar. Any advice is appreciated because this is genuinely ruining my life.

2024.05.29 00:28 Curiositea_ Abnormal cat behavior? Or just weird cat?

Hello! My cat has been exhibiting some weird behaviors that on paper sound concerning, but I've brought her to the vet twice in the past 9 months and the vets don't seem to be too concerned. I'm wondering if I might need to get a second opinion, or request some more in-depth testing perhaps? Or does it seem okay to continue to monitor her behavior and make a judgement from there?
We moved to a new apartment in August of last year, and ever since then her behavior has seemed super odd. She started to frequently hop in and out of the litter boxes, and basically just pees or poops a little at a time. When she leaves the litter box, sometimes a drop or two of pee will end up outside of the litter box as well (not sure if this is normal or not, this is the first time we've had non-carpeted flooring so would not have seen it in our old apartment). We have two litter boxes with two cats, and she would go between both litter boxes back and forth for about 5-10 minutes at a time. I brought her to the vet because I was concerned she had a UTI, and the vet tried to get a urine sample but she had nothing in her bladder, so they sent me home with antibiotics. I gave her the full course and her behavior really didn't change, she would still hop between litter boxes and have little poops and pee a little at a time, so I assumed a UTI was not the answer, and she was otherwise normal so I didn't bring her back unless she started to act different. She also meows in the litter box, but also has a tendency to meow when she's alone in a room as well, and stops as soon as you say her name and she comes running.
I brought her to the vet again more recently (about a month ago) because I was afraid she had eaten some twine off her cat tree, and would sometimes have hair or string sticking poop to her butt that she would rub on the floor to get off a few times a week. Otherwise, she was still using the bathroom (poop and pee) so the vets were not concerned and said if she did swallow it she seemed to be passing it just fine, and to bring her back if she started acting abnormal. Both vet visits she has gotten a physical check (no other testing done other than an attempt to test her urine), her belly wasn't and never has been swollen or hard (she's just chunky, which we have addressed with the vet and are working on). Her behavior otherwise has been normal, she still plays with toys and chases her brother, loves pets, has never acted aggressive or otherwise abnormal, no lethargy, still eats and drinks, and has never once had an accident outside of the litter box.
Now, in our old apartment I didn't pay as much attention, as the litter boxes were in a more secluded area, but I had to put them more in the open in this apartment, so some behavior may be more "normal" for her that I don't realize. The only things that I can guarantee are newer behaviors are her meowing habit, as she has always been a pretty quiet cat but she has started to be more vocal in the past year, and she also seems to lick her butt more frequently. Her brother is also very vocal though, so we wonder if it could be a learned behavior from him potentially.
And in case this is necessary information, for food we feed her a mix of wet and dry food split into two meals. She gets a little pump of fish oil on her wet food one meal a day, which I started doing after the twine incident which seemed to help move things along better because she stopped scooting poop off almost entirely after I introduced it.

In January 2024, I underwent a total thyroidectomy surgery. Ever since my procedure, my TSH levels have been optimal. Despite the endocrinologist reducing my medications five times, my levels remain unstable, swinging between hyper and hypo. Everyday i am dealing with numerous symptoms: dizziness, heat intolerance, excessive sweating, frequent urination, nausea, thinning hair, dry skin, body and joint pain, prickly tingling sensations in my arms and elbows, and relentless fatigue.
I feel exhausted around the clock, with minimal energy to spare. This is starting to deeply affect my mental health, leading to severe depression. On my off days, I sleep up to 18 hours. Two weeks ago, my urologist diagnosed me with kidney stones, adding to my health problems. Just last week, while flossing, half of my tooth crumbled , leaving my dentist baffled at the sudden damage. Despite these alarming symptoms, my endocrinologist seems reluctant to address them seriously.
Following recent blood work, which hinted at potential parathyroid issues, she ordered more tests to be completed in four weeks and suggested daily vitamin D supplements. I am feeling defeated. Do you think this could possibly be a parathyroid issue?

2024.05.28 22:47 Human_Manner4843 Litterbox issues

My kitten just turned one today. She has an issue with using the litter box. She doesn't bury her feces or urine, and frequently poops outside of her box. I have two other cats she gets along with just fine, there's two separate boxes in different rooms, their food isn't nearby, I scoop it out every day and do a full change every two weeks. I keep 2-3 inches of litter and have changed litter brands time and time again as she does not like the bigger chunks or scented litter. I also have a pheromone thing plugged in on the wall in the hall between the two rooms with the boxes as they face each other, per the advice of a vet. She's the only cat in the house with this problem and I'm at a loss. Not sure if it's relevant but she was a stray cat that I took in when she was around two months old, she is spayed and healthy as well.

It's looking like his time is coming soon, and my heart is breaking :( I wanted to make a post here and share Tango's story with you all. I am kind of writing everything down as it comes to me so apologies if it's a bit scattered or disjointed. Lots of words ahead, I appreciate any and all of you who listen to his story :)
First 4 pics are from the last week or so, the rest are from over the past 3 years. I also found a screenshot of the original post where I first found Tango and his sister Topaz (formerly Max and Mazie) <3 They grew up in the same home together, and I believe they were both originally adopted as kittens. From what I remember being told, their previous owners had Tango front declawed at some point, and after that he was having a lot of behavioral issues and they ended up surrendering them both to a shelter. I wish I could know more about their lives before I took them in, but I'm so glad to have them either way.
I adopted Tango and Topaz (T&T - the dynamite siblings as I like to call them) in March 2021, as ESA's and to help me through the rest of the pandemic. I was living alone at the time, and since then they've done so much more than that for me in just 3 short years and I love them both with my whole heart!!! So much so that I've recently got a tattoo of them on my arm lol (last pic). I live with my partner now with Tango and Topaz, and his Russian blue cat Maya (not pictured), who he adopted just a month or two after I got T&T. Maya is around 6 years old now, and is a spoiled little princess brat that loves picking a fight with Topaz for no reason, but she is still the sweetest lil thing when she wants to be and I love her.
When I first met T&T in person, Tango was already noticeably very skinny (my friends immediately gave him the nickname Mr. Bones), but their foster parent assured me he was still in excellent health. I knew that adopting a senior cat meant not having as much time with them relative to a young cat, but that didn't matter to me - as soon as I met them both I was already in love!
It only took a few months after I adopted them that Tango was having trouble urinating and we had to take him to the emergency vet, where they told us he had stage 3 or 4 chronic kidney disease. I didn't know how much time we would have left with him, so I've tried to treat every day with him as a blessing! Since then, he's been a happy and surprisingly lively cat given his age and condition. He's been on prescription wet and dry food for his kidneys, and thankfully he didn't have a problem switching to it early on.
He has always greeted me in the mornings by jumping up onto the bed and meowing and laying on top of me until I finally decide to get up, which is when he guides me to his food bowl so that I can watch him chow down lol. We have automatic feeders for their dry food in the mornings, but he still insists that I watch over him sometimes. He loves to meow for his wet food all day, even though we don't serve it until 8:30 every night! And he is such a fiend for treats! As soon as he hears the treat jar, he is right next to me meowing and meowing until he gets his lil snack. And oh boy when we get out the cat gogurts? He goes so crazy! He'll practically do tricks for them and it's always so fun to watch. He's never been all that playful since I've had him, but there have been rare times that he does play and it's just so friggin cute. He does like catnip, and it's so cute seeing him rub up all against a catnip toy and bat at it. And sometimes he will even stalk a teaser toy - it always looked so out of character for him, but so fun to see!! I'll cherish all of those little moments forever <3
So fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, I started noticing his meows were a bit different - quieter and more frequent, and a bit restless sounding. I didn't think much of it but I scheduled a vet appointment anyways. He's slowed down a lot in that short amount of time already and it's been so hard to watch. He was at the vet this past Friday, and I am waiting to hear back from them about some blood test results, and to discuss "next steps"...... Just since Friday, he has seemed to decline so fast. Back when I first got him I think he was around 6 or 7 pounds - as of that most recent vet visit, he is down to 4.4 pounds :( He is having trouble walking, it seems like his hind legs are causing him a lot of pain, and he definitely can't jump up onto anything anymore. In the past few days, he has tried jumping up onto our bed, and it would take him a few tries and sometimes he'd fall down on his side and it makes me so sad. I think this morning may have been the first time that he didn't even get out of his cat bed to come greet us when we opened the bedroom door. I went to sit with him for a little bit before signing on to work (very grateful to have a job where I can work from home). I gave him lots of pets, and tried to give him some treats. He was able to crunch down half a treat, but couldn't get the rest. It looked like it might have been hurting him to try to bend down to get it. And he's never been one to take treats from my hand, unfortunately :(
I have been trying to hold it together all weekend, but this morning I finally had to break down and sob for a little bit with Tango, and have pretty much been tearing up on and off all day and I suspect it'll be like that for a while. Once I can talk to the vet, I'm also going to reach out to a local place that provides at-home euthanasia.... absolutely no way am I taking him to a scary vets office for his last moments :'(
Anyways thank you kindly for listening - I'm very glad to have found this place to share my love for Tango <3

2024.05.28 21:57 pururun_kyupi UTI flaming up again

I had a persistent UTI for 7 months. I was treated two times with an antibiotic. The one time solution you drink. It didn’t help, at least not long enough for it to resolve. Both in November and April they found the same bacteria, Enterobacteklebsiella aerogenes. My doc gave me canephron Uno to try out. It did help. I was even convinced my UTI was completely healed. Except for some slight discomfort, every other symptom was gone. For about 3 weeks symptom free. Until I took an iron supplement which had tons of sorbitol which made it flare up again. Besides the usual UTI symptoms (frequent urination, burning, stinging), I also have a weird vaginal discharge that comes out in clumps, similiar to a fungal infection. Except when my urinary symptoms stopped, the discharge also normalized and when it flared up again this also came back, even worse than before. There was also a systematic general drowsiness which also went away. I tried taking canephron uno again, but it didn‘t do much this time. Though now it‘s getting even worse again after not taking it. So I took it again. Because I started breaking out in sweats again. It‘s only preventing it from worsening now. I will probably need an antibiotic to stay on for a couple of days for it to truly resolve fully. There are no resistances that build over time, so it should work, right? But for how many days for a case like mine?
