Considering object designations for bodies in our universe, The Sun seems like it should have a proper catalogue designation instead of The Sun. Once humans leave Earth and journey a few stars away, The Sun is going to become a very useless and confusing catalogue designation.
With current designation conventions, The Sun should have the designation of something similar to HOM1, since it was first described using homo sapiens stereoscopic observational equipment, also known as "eyes", and it was the 1th object to be observed using the equipment.
What are your thoughts on what The Sun should be designated as?
Edit: I forgot to specify that I was referring to the official IAU designation, which oftentimes uses the nomenclature of the instrument used, followed by the number of the object, and its type, if applicable. Then again, mass downvoting someone just because they didn't specify that a catalogue designation referred to the International Astronomical Union catalogue designation is just beyond petty. I didn't realize that asking a question about a catalogue designation had such strong political leanings that it results in astronomers getting bent out of shape if you mention the wrong subjects.
