a topic that time and time again pops up in my work (when doing own research, reading papers, and while teaching): Which classification evaluation metric to pick? Or: Why does paper use metric x for evaluation (but not y)? And other questions of the sorts.
So over the years I kept making some notes, and now I've finalized a write-up. I thought maybe it's interesting for some of you and why not share it:

Here's the abstract:

Classification systems are evaluated in a countless number of papers. However, we find that evaluation practice is often nebulous. Frequently, metrics are selected without arguments, and blurry terminology invites misconceptions. For instance, many works use so-called 'macro' metrics to rank systems (e.g., 'macro F1') but do not clearly specify what they would expect from such a 'macro' metric. This is problematic, since picking a metric can affect paper findings as well as shared task rankings, and thus any clarity in the process should be maximized. Starting from the intuitive concepts of bias and prevalence, we perform an analysis of common evaluation metrics, considering expectations as found expressed in papers. Equipped with a thorough understanding of the metrics, we survey metric selection in recent shared tasks of Natural Language Processing. The results show that metric choices are often not supported with convincing arguments, an issue that can make any ranking seem arbitrary. This work aims at providing overview and guidance for more informed and transparent metric selection, fostering meaningful evaluation.

Some key observations are:

• Frequently, it's not fully clear why a specific metric is used in a case.
  
• It's also often not really clear what "meta-metric" properties are implied by terms like “macro” in a “macro metric”. However, one wish that repeatedly occurs is that a metric should induce some sort of “balance”.
  

To clarify points like these, we analyze some popular metrics and their properties. Some insights are:

• Many metrics can be written more simply in terms of classifier bias and class prevalence.
  
• There’s two metrics called Macro F1 (!). And they measure quite differently. On the other hand, Kappa and MCC (Matthews Correlation Coefficient) are a bit like birds of the same feather.
  
• Macro Recall has an intuitive interpretation: It’s a series of bets with fair odds. And it's the only metric that's completely invariant to changes in class prevalence (just in case we might wish for this).
  

In the end, if there's only one conclusion to be drawn, then I guess it's that there's no overall perfect metric, and metrics should always be chosen sensibly given a specific context. Hope my work can help a bit with that.

So i was with this guy. 2 weeks only. We agreed for dating on the second week. He acted all nice mature, family guy type. Very sweet. And as he said he liked my company alot too. So we hit off. Nothing were sexual. We all believe in sex after marriage but yes we did talk about it.

After that i never texted him or approached him. We have mutuals, no one can ever say i caused drama. I minded my own business even tho I was hurt. We also attended same events.
Today after 10 months i saw his true colors. He matched with my friend on bumble and sent her a microsoft slide stating reasons why she should date him. He didnt knew her and she didnt recognize at first. Then they shifted to Instagram and there when he asked from which institution she's from, upon revealing he was like "oh Fuck trauma hit" he then continued to disregard the time we spent. Saying bullshit stuff.
I wouldnt really mind if he was going on having flings or shit because he clearly stated he's not ready for a serious relationship. Yes i always said if i see him in a relation with someone other, that is when i am gonna act because i asked him and let him know what i want from a romantic relation.So I wouldn't bother if he was having flings.I knew he was on bumble. But what really pissed me was how he disregarded and disrespected me stating i caused him trauma whereas i did nothing to him. He costed me my mental health yet i never talked bullshit about him. Always defended when someone tried to.

So, there's been a dearth of information and details about the upcoming US-market, long wheelbase ID.Buzz to date. That continues, but I got a call from my dealership/salesperson yesterday with surprising news--they are now asking for build configurations for early (dealer allocation) reservation holders!
The dealer mostly repeated the content of the recent press release, although he didn't think the Euro-style flip-up trailer hitch would actually make it here, which I think is right.
Three trims will be available initially, with 1st Editions coming...first...and then the other trims following shortly after. 1st Editions, they say, will likely have every option ticked by default, with the exception of:

1. Drivetrain selection, single motor (RWD), or dual motor (AWD, 4Motion) , in addition to
   
2. Two-tone exterior color selection (Orange, Green, Blue, Yellow, and Silver I think).
   

Previously, it was believed that only RWD would be available at launch, but it appears this is no longer the case. I did ask about heat pump availability but there's no official word on this yet.
As for timing, I was told that my reservation (1st in line at my dealer as I made my reservation in 2018!) will likely be built in Germany in the "38th week of 2024" (Sept. 16-22) and then shipped over here, hopefully sometime before the end of 2024.

On behalf of my friend (he doesn't use reddit) I want to ask a few question in regard to his upcoming visa application (Subclass 500) for his Master studies at UNSW, he asked me because I'm currently studying in Melb but I honestly don't know the answer so I'll post it here.
He was an exchange student from RMIT Vietnam to RMIT Melbourne in 2023 for 6 month and he was granted a 6 month subclass 500 visa for that purpose of study, he left Australia just 3 days before the visa expired because he spend the majority of the semester break touring Victoria, SA, and WA (He didn't work, it was self funded by his family), some people said when he applied again, the immigration department will raise eyebrows on the fact that he left so close to being an overstay and they might assume he will want to stay in Australia after his next studies, and possibly become an overstayer, he wanted to know if this is true or people just want to scare him because of the recent changes in immigration law that make the process stricter.
Additional information: he didn't travel much and his exchange to Australia last year is his first and only time traveling abroad, and he won't intend to stay in Australia after finishing his Master because he will take over his family's business back in Vietnam so no 485 or anything after.

A few years ago, I wrote a post here about my existential crisis and I got many very supportive responses and they really really helped me. I’m writing here again with more thoughts that could be a bit all over the place, but maybe some of you will also relate. I trust people in here and I am looking forward to your thoughts, and feel free to share your own experiences.
So, as I mentioned, it has been a few years and I wouldn’t say that things got better. I do feel I have depression, I think I had it for most of my life, and I’m mostly just trying to distract myself, I guess like a lot of you guys too. I am trying to accept the fact that questions about the origin of the universe and “why, how, and from where” are unanswerable. My next big task is finding the meaning and purpose of my own life. And it is hard guys. I don’t know…
First and foremost, I have seen that a lot of people here mention distraction as a way to cope. But I think it’s like a double-edged sword. For example, I feel this deep existential loneliness and sadness every time I read a good book or watch a good movie, series or anime. When it ends, I just feel completely empty. While I’m watching/reading, I feel like I immerse myself into a different fantasy world. Especially when binge-watching… And when you finish, there is this “transition period” when you come back to reality and the world feels so meaningless, boring, dull, no magic, no nothing. So, in trying to distract myself I also cause myself to go through this “transition period”. I guess people who binge-watch might understand what I’m talking about. Distracting helps but only for a short period and after that I’m left feeling completely devastated, and I don’t want to go back to the real world. So, I started to analyze more and deeper, why the hell do I feel this way. What is missing in my life? What is so attractive about these stories that I watch/read? And I think I found it – there is one constant in all of them – a good group of friends that go through adventures and hardships together (for example some of these realizations came after I binge-watched the famous anime Attack on Titan; or just basically movies or series where there is a mutual goal between characters, for example, in my favorite movie Interstellar there is a group of people with one specific goal and they are trying to solve a very meaningful problem and are having conversations about the universe, etc.). So, guys, could this be it? Humans are social animals, so to have a very good, trustworthy group of people around you and go through life together sounds like what could make life most meaningful…? But to find such people feels like a very hard task… Even finding one person to talk about existential questions is hard, but to find a group where you all could be on the same level of understanding feels insanely hard because not a lot of people think like this. And you can’t force such things, finding deep connections as an adult is a hard task. Finding a romantic partner is even harder… I wish that I could just talk freely about such topics with people, that it would be “normal”. I want more people to talk openly about this and not pretend... Also, such a want or need for a group of people might come from the fact that I grew up in a very dysfunctional and toxic family, so naturally there is a need to create my own “chosen family”… I have some really good friends in my life, but only a few can go a bit deeper with me on such topics, so mostly I am alone in all of this. Sometimes the loneliness is so deep… It seems others do not feel as deeply this burden of existence as I do. Or that others for some reason don’t have this need for knowing why and from where everything comes from, don’t see the world for what it is but live in illusions and play games. I guess what I am trying to say is that it’s hard to find a person with similar goals and similar motivations (a lot of people have selfish desires and surface-level motivations). And I can’t take it anymore, the small talk and the surface-level conversations, I am so bored out of my mind.
I can sometimes minimize this feeling of dullness with some fun and adrenaline-filled activities, for example, I went skydiving and definitely felt a bit better. But such activities don’t fulfill that deep need of belonging. On some days I feel so fucking depressed and I hide it from everyone so well… I know a therapist can help, especially existential psychotherapy. But I want friends too, to be able to talk to people about this, whenever, don’t pay money for it, create genuine connections with people and do things together. For example, traveling to different countries, immersing into different cultures, and exploring is what makes me really live in the present moment, that’s when I feel most alive. And then to have a good group of friends and be able to travel with them and explore might do it for me. But this wish feels like a fantasy.
Another form of escape I use is daydreaming. I would call it immersive daydreaming. I can just close my eyes and start creating stories and narratives. Sometimes I don’t even need to close my eyes, it just all happens in my mind. Sometimes this helps me get through the day. But of course, naturally, there comes a want to actually experience what you are daydreaming about…
Finding meaning in a profession is a whole nother topic… I am really struggling to find a purposeful and meaningful job. We live in a time where almost everything has already been discovered – continents, countries, oceans, there are plenty of researchers almost in any scientific field and the research topics are becoming narrower and narrower. Of course, there is space, but sadly, for space exploration it is too early… So, most jobs feel like a rat race and just take your precious time… But there is no other option in this capitalistic society. I have various hobbies that help me be in the moment, so at least that. Of course, we can talk about creating something good for the world and leaving some kind of legacy when you die, but we all know that the earth will also someday die. So, talking about everyday life, maybe it’s best to see what is most meaningful to you in the present moment…?

Another topic I wanted to touch upon is these weird and unusual feelings I sometimes have. When I’m ruminating on the nature of existence, I can become so deeply present that I can almost feel the time moving. I feel like I’m too self-aware, too conscious. As if I can feel the earth slowly spin around its axis, almost can see/imagine the atoms. When I think about the universe, I imagine myself from above, from space, looking down below. Like right now I am sitting in my room, that is a box – I am in a certain country – on earth – somewhere in space, and all around is black. I – a tiny speck of dust. Earth – a small ball. ~Almost like in~ the scale of the universe (another good example could be the scene from the movie “Agora” where the camera is zooming in from space down to earth to one specific spot, also with that distant sound… (at 56:13)). And this image appears all at once in my head. And I walk around this world and see myself from two points of view, kind of. Does anyone else experience this? And in general, everything in life seems “double” – like I can see a person and I can also see atoms and molecules that the person is made of. Maybe not “see”, maybe it’s more imagination or understanding. It’s very hard to explain, but basically, all the things are just bundles of atoms interacting with other bundles of atoms. I can also see this duality in everyday conversations, work, everywhere – we are all just pretending, we are doing something to live, to move forward, but it’s all meaningless in the grand scheme of things. It’s meaningful and meaningless at the same time.
Nowadays I avoid a lot of things, like movies, series, books, media, etc., that are associated with existential questions, because they throw me into that panic/crisis state. Also, everyday stressors take me out of this deeper level of thinking a bit, so these feelings of intense self-awareness come and go. For example, when I was working in a very stressful job the everyday challenges took me out to the more surface-level problems.
The one video that really helped me, but at first, I was really reluctant to watch it, is this one. Brian Cox is so positive and calm. That’s the kind of attitude I want to have. Sometimes the clichés also help me, for example, maybe I should be looking at life like a journey and just have a good time? On the other hand, living without a clear purpose is fucking horrible.
So, these were just my random thoughts about searching for what is most meaningful in life and what my experience is like.

I realy need some help.
I want to play the game because of the new released updat. So I installed the new update and tried to join, which I had to interrupt with alt F4 because I forgot somethin and I needed to leave my PC. After that I tried to join and the game allways crashed without telling me whats wrong. I veryfied my files even reinstalled it two times. But nothing seems to work, it allways crashes in the loading screen after selecting your start location. I noticed that if I hover over the "change server" button it tells me that I cant, because my avatar is still in the game. Which is confusing, because i didnt join.
So if anyone knows whats wrong, I beg you, I personally am out of wisdom.

I need some advice. I feel way out of my depth and literally have no idea how to proceed from here. Any help would be appreciated.
I invested 100k in a renovation project about 5 years ago. It had some hold-ups due to Covid, environmental issues, etc., but will soon be ready to start leasing apartments. I own roughly a 10% share of the profits, and up until very recently was led to believe that everything was progressing relatively smoothly: costs were up, yes, but rent prices would be higher, too! Daily updates of construction work were provided in videos and images. The property started listing apartments on Instagram for pre-lease. It all seemed like it was coming together. The idea is that by the project's completion, my $100k share would be worth $500k, and I would be making around $20k before taxes over the year. My unhatched chickens were counted night and night again as I began to dream of financial independence.
Then the bomb dropped.
I started asking the person in charge of the deal about tax obligations, and I noticed that they were suddenly a bit less responsive than usual. These set off warning alarms, so when they finally got back to me with half-answers, I requested a phone call.
On the phone, I was told that the project ran significantly over budget, and that two of the partners had to take out additional money to finance to project, and get an additional bank loan. As such, I was told, my ~10% share has been reduced to a ~5% share. After foufive years, the property would be sold, I would get 300k (much less than the 500k share I had been told about), and all rent collected would go toward repaying the interest on the bank loan, ie no rental income for those foufive years.
However, in the operating agreement we signed, it says:

In the event that the Members determine that additional Capital Contributions are needed in excess of the aggregate Capital Contribution contributed by the Members pursuant to Schedule A hereof (any such additional Capital Contributions being referred to herein as an “Additional Capital Contribution”), then each Member shall have the right, but not the obligation, to make a Capital Contribution in an amount not to exceed such Member’s percentage ownership (as set forth in Schedule A) held times the amount of the Additional Capital Contribution. The election to make such a Capital Contribution in accordance with this Section 2.2 shall be made within fifteen (15) days of receipt of any request therefor made by the Members. If a Member (a “Noncontributing Member”) fails to pay all or any portion of his Additional Capital Contribution to the Company by the due date (the “Unpaid Proportionate Share”), the Manager shall deliver to all other Members (the “Other Members”) written notice of the Noncontributing Member's failure (the “Deficiency Notice”). The Deficiency Notice shall specify the amount of the Unpaid Proportionate Share which the Noncontributing Member failed to pay and the date on or before which such funds are required by the Company, which date shall not be earlier than three (3) days after the date the Deficiency Notice is given. Each of the Other Members shall have the right, but not the obligation, pro rata, in proportion to his or her Percentage Interest to pay the Unpaid Proportionate Share. Other Members who paid any portion of the Unpaid Proportionate Share shall have their Capital Accounts increased by the amount of the Unpaid Proportionate Share paid by them. Such increases shall be apportioned among such Other Members in the ratio of the amount of the Unpaid Proportionate Share paid by each such Other Member. The percentage interests of all Members shall then be adjusted based upon their respective Capital Accounts.

At no point was I ever informed that I could contribute more to the project to maintain my ~10% share. At no point did I ever receive a deficiency notice, or any other such document. I also never received any information about an additional loan being taken out.
On another note, I recently contributed an additional $100k to separate real estate project managed by the same person, and I'm starting to question that decision.
So, what should I do? Should I contact a lawyer who deals with real estate issues? An investment advisor? I really have no idea where to proceed from here. Any help is welcome. I'm at a complete loss. FWIW I'm a non-resident and non-US citizen.

Alright, I imagine this post is kind of unique for this sub, so stay with me.
I am a high school government teacher, working to train an AI to work as a sort of "expert witness" during the Oral Arguments portion of a Supreme Court simulation. That's to say that I'm loading an AI with reliable sources on Supreme Court Cases, and instructing it to pull exclusively from that information, as my students inquire about details of the case. The AI will search these records, identify the information they need, and present it in layman's terms.
I've had a really easy time finding court opinions and loading those in, but I've found they're really lacking specifics, and tend to just generate responses that reiterate the decision of the court. I would like to find some like, massive, extremely thorough files, so when my students ask things like "what was the difference in funding between schools in San Antonio vs Rodriguez?", it will actually provide them with numbers and data.
I assumed this would be public information and crazy easy to crack open...but then I remembered that I don't have a law degree, and have like, a passable understanding of what I'm really looking for.
Is anyone aware of the resources I would want to plug into this AI and where I might find them?

I'm by no means criticizing people who don't want to talk to others often / People who really are super busy & People who want to find someone to have unimportant conversations with - I'm aware that not everyone has the same expectations which is why everything you're reading now - is here for a reason :) All I'm suggesting is - I don't want anything temporary and I don't want to be the one always giving more than receiving.Listen people - I used to ignore being..ignored by others..always being just an option to talk to during tough times or moments of boredom.I was too young to realize that I was never important enough for most people that were a part of my life. I'm not trying to sound rude but conversations once or twice a week wouldn't be enough for me and I don't need them... Let me tell you one thing – A true friend would never just give up on you for no reason :) It’s always possible to find someone to have a random conversation with – someone willing to send you one message once or twice a week..but..It’s almost impossible to find people willing to make more time for you.

Or what are you interested in? You can't guarantee others that one day they'll finally be happy + when It comes to social interactions - We're responsible only for ourselves - not others & as you guys know people let us down quite often (sometimes even when there's no reason) so instead of telling people how they should move on, forget everything and be happy or asking them to find a therapist - be there for them! Always be willing to listen to them If you really like them or want to get to know them & don't suggest everyone in a tough situation to find a therapist because even the best therapist won't ever replace a true friend + It's quite normal to be disappointed If people always do something to hurt you. A couple of days ago I got a text from an unknown number on WhatsApp, usually they're people I know and I just haven't got their number until then, but this time it wasn't anyone I could envision. It was a foreign number with the +2-- something. I assume it was African as I had seen multiple country code numbers start with a 2 and the country's name sounded like it was from there(I am African by the way). I was given a welcome text that you usually get from a service related to forex and crypto. The text wasn't for me as the name wasn't mine and I had made no account with the service details. The person who sent it got the wrong number (somehow) and didn't send any additional information or P.S'. At first I thought it was complete bull as I actually got into forex through Meta trader (MT5) and ever since my phone's personalized ads have added it to the content I see. I waited until I got to a focused space to investigate.
To crush my hopes it wasn't login details for MT5 which I have gotten to know quite well, but there was the website to log into included. I typed it in, used the details and without much barriers, Login Successful, I was allowed in, no two factor authentication or nothing, I thought it was quite a quite lousy way of security but I wasn't going to complain.
Just to be clear, I will not say every little detail so I won't get finessed by a hacker smarter than I, as I believe just bits and pieces of information is all someone needs to pinpoint the details for themselves, yes what I did could be depicted as stealing but it is what it is.
I proceeded to navigate through the site, finding out this person who the details were meant to be for had not only 2.69 Million dollars worth of a crypto and around more than half a mill in USDT. With prior knowledge I knew the layout would have a withdrawal option and a crypto wallet to send to the section. So I got one of them that was connected to my bank for quick and easy withdrawals. I decided to do some rounding, and do little mercy and take +98% of the money in there, although I know I'm on the way to get rich on my own, I'll choose a shortcut over a hardworking and persevering story any day, I'm clearly not an Anime MC. It was all going well, a little too well, there had to be a catch, there was!
A Key, a digital key, I could not find it in the text or the website, the key was a passcode that only the original creator knows, I did some research and found not even the hash method would work, only he has it, but I was determined... kinda. I replied back to the original text asking how to use my key and precisely sent it in a way I believed the owner would have said it in; And in the meantime while waiting on the reply I took to google and researched how to use password hackers. I came across Passgan but none of the sites had any download options and I was losing motivation, I had work coming up. I had attempted the key many times already seeing if I could guess some obvious ones but it wouldn't budge, but I knew the brute force method was sure to work eventually. I found a software that did what I expected, so I had put in who what when where and why's type of whatnot of the password I needed unlocked, and good thing there was somehow seemingly unlimited attempts.
I activated it, put my device away and let it do its work. I had gone to make some cordial and run random quick errands out of excitement, weird what humans do when they feel like something will go their way for once. When I returned to my device it had shown the funds at a different balance to pre withdrawing, I couldn't believe it wasn't there. I waited another span of time, a bit longer than the first time because I assumed a transfer of that size would take a couple of hours at least. I checked the wallet I sent it to. It was 7 figures higher than what I had before.
In around 2 seconds, thoughts of how my life would change flooded my head more than any fantasy I could ever have connected. I've seen enough movies to know 1 mistake could make the whole operation topple down so I continued to keep it in until the job was actually done. The last step was to have it go from my digital crypto wallet to my bank account. I knew sending 7 figures to my bank would trigger suspicion for sure so I decided to only send feeble amounts at a time, but even this method wouldn't be enough for me. In the country I'm in, unexplained wealth is grounds for arrest as I've seen on the news a few times.
I thought to just do my whole thing real slow, I wanted nothing more than to quit my job, but hadn't yet found a suitable alibi to unexplained wealth. You don't just go from the lowest tax bracket to the largest in a few days.
I decided I will withdraw just around a band or two to a high interest savings account every week and have it make me money. The one I settled with which I was already familiar with had a rate of +4%. I decided that I would quit work and just say my family had been supporting me while I study something that pays really nicely, a ticket in advanced construction and some aged care or disability work and claim to have simply been working a fuck ton saving almost every possibly dime using some nonsense Andrew Tate motivation, they would surely buy that story, well for anyone who came looking. Then I should be able to sneak in my money and the other money together and hide it once more within a family business that would gladly help me out.
The things in the last paragraph haven't happened yet but so far it looks like it is going to go my way,
Why would a millionaire take to reddit and not twitter or something? Im using yuzu from steam deck, and after a few months of using steam deck I decided screw it ima play smash. I always played this game with my buddies, so I had most the shaders loaded. I update yuzu, then boom. Everything causes lag. every time I press a button in game, theres lag as if theres no shaders. me and my friends got past this for the first few times it happened but now we dont play steam deck anymore specifically cause of this issue. I know its not creating any shaders cause I go into the shaders folder and its the exact same size down to the kilobyte from before i even opened the game after a long play session. anyone have a fix? I'll preface this first, I am not a scrum master, I only have experience as a product owner in the past, where I delegated tasks to my team of data analysts and data scientists.
