2024.06.10 18:03 SpecialistTurn3516 Missed a boatload of deadlines for post-registration stuff, now they wanna make me hand-write. Help!

Hi all -- a bunch of emails to me from my Jx's board of bar examiners apparently got filtered, and I've missed their deadline for registering a laptop, so they say "nope, you have to handwrite now." Called the board, called the relevant court that handles these issues in my jx, nope, they can't help either. Am I just fucked? They're seriously going to make me handwrite my essays because of this? (If this all sounds panicky, then I've accurately portrayed my state of mind.)

2024.06.10 18:02 barlow243 Minimal Desk Setups - PBT Keycaps

Has anyone tried the ‘MDS’ dye-sub PBT keycaps at all? I have a Keychron Q1 Max on the way, and whilst the caps they come with look beautiful, I am in the market for a set of dye-sub PBT caps over the double-shot ones that come with the board (personal preference).
Today I had an Instagram ad (hence I’m a little skeptical) for a set of dye-sub keycaps from Minimal Desk Setups, whom I’ve never heard of. They boast a thick plastic (1.75mm), Cherry Profile, look very nice and seem to be quite good value at £36.
However, I have never heard of MDS before and their product reviews seem too tailored and perfect for me to believe they’re from actual purchases. They claim to ship from their ‘international warehouse’ but do not state where this is - to me it would scream China like most other KB products, but they seem to be in stock and not just another group buy.
Does anyone have experience with these caps or this company? Possibly a drop-ship of another product? If it seems too good to be true, do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks!

Pushing the Envelope on Contact: the role of Spiritual Development and a “Masterplan” for Earth Civilization.
J Burkes MD 2024

Some time ago on a UAP disclosure/contact social media page, a discussion occurred concerning subconscious fears as an impediment to achieving higher levels of contact with UAP intelligences. The digital thread involved mention of the amazing example of Dorothy Izatt. For over forty years, she interacted with multiple flying saucer intelligences. In the process, Mrs. Izatt obtained tens of thousands of hours of 8mm footage capturing anomalous visual displays. Dorothy’s story Is covered in Frank Longo’s 46-minute documentary released in 2008. It is available on Amazon Prime. https://www.amazon.com/Capturing-Light-Frank-Longo/dp/B001I0OVK6

Dorothy was highly spiritual individual. I believe that her remarkable success in terms of developing a sustainable relationship with UAP intelligences was likely a reflection of that spiritual development. After Dorothy’s example came up in our discussion, a fellow contact activist stated that he was concerned that he harbored subconscious fears that were holding him back from closer encounters. Here is my response in edited form:

It is important to acknowledge the big picture. As I understand it, there is possibly some kind of “masterplan” for Earth civilization. I suspect that it is not coming exclusively from the “ETs,” but perhaps is a co-creation of humanity, the Earth herself as a conscious and intelligent being and non-human intelligences associated with the UFO phenomenon. I imagine that it will involve the creation of a mass movement that is spiritually based. It will be one that embraces the following basic principles:
1. Promoting the profound spiritual transformation of humanity’s mass consciousness that will be required to save Earth civilization from destruction. This will involve a shift from people identifying with forms (both of things and ideas) and instead find personal and collective identities in the wakefulness that is Consciousness itself. This will involve acknowledging that the concept of oneness flows from Universal Consciousness (in the West it is called “God). This unifying principle has been the essential message of all spiritual traditions, especially Eastern mysticism.
2. Establishing a sustainable world peace based on social and environmental justice. This goal can only be achieved when the above transformation described above is fully underway. What I am suggesting is nothing less than linking contact with flying saucer intelligences to possible solutions to the fundamental challenges facing humanity. These include war, the obscene disparities of wealth and power on our planet, racism, and sexism and a near total disregard of the biosphere that sustains humanity.
3. Organizing a peaceful mass movement to achieve these goals within the context of an evolving relationship with the non-human intelligences associated with what are called “unexplained anomalous phenomena.” In my judgment these entities are offering limited assistance in this process.
4. Contact activists should understand that even with the most advanced levels of spiritual transformation are experienced by individuals and groups, when it comes to physical contact, we cannot push the contact envelope too far. This is because the larger society is just now starting to understand that not only are flying saucers real, but that they might be important for the future of our civilization.
If contact activists, in terms of their physical and mental outreach efforts, get too “successful”, resulting in “landings and boardings”, or mentally, with downloads of accurate technical information, contact activists would incur the wrath of those defending the status quo. This might even lead to violent acts of reprisal against volunteer contact workers and their supporters.

In my judgment, terrestrial elites fear UFO intelligences because these non-humans are a considerable threat to the power structures of our planet. This threat is experienced by vast array of individuals and organizations and includes economic, political, military, scientific institutions and even some factions of religious establishments. This is not a conspiracy theory. It is simply a description of how class society works and the ways the rich and powerful maintain supremacy.
I recall writing to my fellow activist that people working to promote contact should not be too hard on themselves when it comes to the fear factor. Such fears are part of primitive “fight/flight” mechanisms rooted in our biology and upbringing. It is my hope that when the time is right, the contact network that I call the “Contact Underground” will become a popular and powerful force for positive change. Perhaps some future generation of volunteer contact workers will celebrate with every breath a supreme love and as the Muse song “Uprising” goes, “We will be victorious."

I suggest that for now, and in the future, we do the following: Look within to the formless realms of consciousness to become the change we want to see in the world, and then, look outwards, to find kindred activist souls, to make those changes in the world of form.

Addendum: The following comments were made in response to this article. I believe they can serve to promote further dialog on the points made in this posting.

James Rose: Thanks for this Joseph. Couldn't agree more. I feel that unless we tackle the big stuff, corruption, climate change, disparities of wealth etc. etc. then it's ultimately going nowhere globally. My question though is what about contact groups that achieve more profound experiences through things like Rama training. Should the goal of the movement be to advance as many people as possible as quickly as possible?

Author: Thank you, James, for your question concerning the paths ahead. Volunteer contact workers and those who support their ongoing efforts as I do, need to acknowledge the historic nature of the struggles to come. As a participant in the social movements from the 1950s through the mid 1980s, I believe that the contact networks (CE5ers, Rahma and independent ones) don't constitute a "movement" at this time. Loose networks that currently exist of only a few thousand at most on a planet of eight billion, are seeds that might blossom into a social movement as some time in the future. Realistically speaking, such groups now lack the organizational, ideological, and spiritual maturity to launch a social movement. It took hundreds of years of concerted struggle to end chattel slavery, for women to win the vote in the West, 80 years. I envision a slow buildup of the necessary human resources to make a peaceful revolutionary process a reality over the next few generations. Given this required prolonged development, there is no one "correct approach." Building increasing numbers of contact groups is important. Strengthening activists in their resolve to facilitate personal and collective spiritual transformation is important. Having much greater numbers of people staging CE5s, in Spanish encuentros programados, aka HICE (Human Initiated Contact Events) even though they may have just a superficial understanding of the nature of our campaign is also important.

At every point in the process, small collectives will need to assess the local conditions, measure what they can realistic accomplish given the limitations that I mentioned above and choose the actions that they believe will further the process. Later when large networks under a common set of principles emerge will the term "movement" be appropriately applied to contact workers and their supporters.

Staging Human Initiated Contact Events is barely on the radarscope of the much larger UFO research and disclosure community fan base. This will change I suspect in the decades to come, but not without much concerted low-level action in contact networks demonstrating the success of our consciousness-based methods of staging encounters.

The question naturally arises how can those that lead humanity into the abyss be removed from power. I suspect but cannot prove that only a social movement that is both profoundly spiritual and political might be able to turn things around. The expansion of human consciousness that contact with UAPs results in, must be combined with peaceful political action and such a process is not even being discussed let alone planned for.
My view is that the Earth is not doomed. I believe she is alive and awake. Earth consciousness will continue to evolve, but human civilization will be stressed to the breaking point. A series of environmental catastrophes will compel us to realize the following: We will either evolve spiritually and take corrective action, or hundreds of millions will die prematurely. There will be no salvation from heaven, angels, or “ETs.” We will have to do the work or suffer the terrible consequences of making poor decisions.

2024.06.10 18:01 Hermetic_Arsenal AITA for not letting my parents come to my graduation?

This is an ongoing issue and I’m getting a lot of flak from extended family members. I don’t really regret my decision, but I don’t know if I was an AH.
My (16F) parents divorced when I was 12. It seemed like one day everything was great, I go sleepover for a weekend with my cousin/best friend, and suddenly I’m coming back to a sit down discussion about the divorce. No warning, no indication anything was going wrong before that, nothing. I don’t know what happened and I guess I don’t really need to, but it might have made it easier at the time if there had been a reason. It messed me up, ngl. I stopped talking for awhile and just tried to stay away from them. I was starting high school because I had skipped grades and asked to go to a boarding prep school because having to move between houses so much was miserable. I got a scholarship so they didn’t have to pay for anything. They didn’t want me to be so far away but my guidance counselor at school convinced them it would be a good move for college and the routine and stability would help me focus. I loved the school and boarding, it was the best. I wish I could have stayed there year round.
So, I’ve barely been around my parents for the last four years. Usually just Christmas break and a couple weeks in the summer since I always managed to find summer programs to go to so I wouldn’t have to be there long. They tried to get me to want to stay longer and spend more time with them but I don’t want to. I didn’t fight about it but I didn’t really participate either so I guess they gave up, plus I was working on getting early college credits during the summers so it wasn’t like I was just ducking around.
I graduated as valedictorian of my class three weeks ago, but I asked my parents not to come. I would have rather just picked up my diploma from the office without the fanfare and avoided it, but the valedictorian thing ruled that out. My parents were both really hurt as they had been looking forward to it and wanted to make a big deal out of it and celebrate. I didn’t want that and I didn’t want to see them there with their new partners pretending everything is ok.
I haven’t stopped hearing about it since and my mom’s husband told me she was heartbroken and I should be ashamed. My grandparents think I should have let them come and celebrate me because they’re proud of me. Nobody understands my side. I’m supposed to be going to a summer internship next week but they may not let me go because “we all need to talk about this”.

2024.06.10 17:56 LuckyCaptainCrunch I recently watched the Cold Case Detective video on Tubi about Asha. And he stated that Harold slept on the couch that night. That’s the first time I had heard that.

Did Harold sleep on the couch that night? That to me seems like it would’ve made it 100’s harder for her to sneak out, and nearly impossible for someone to come in and take her without waking him. I know all of these shows aren’t 100% accurate, but that statement surprised me.
Also, I’m curious if the family is active in here? If your child disappeared, would you be involved in every message board you could find looking for clues? I know it would be hard to read the accusations against you, but you could also try to shut those rumors down. As well as correct any false or wrongly stated information.
I think in 95% of these type cases, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one. That’s why at first, Harold’s late night candy run on that night, then the fact that he checked in on the kids not once, but twice after he was home had me leaning towards something happened with her and him that night.
But, learning of the NKOTB nightgown found in her bookbag that wasn’t hers, cleared him in my mind.
But now I’m wondering about that t-shirt. If Harold went to the Wal Mart that was about 7.5 miles from their house that night for candy, which if you know Shelby would’ve probably been one of the only places open at all that late, if it’s possible that he bought the t-shirt then and he placed it in the backpack? Nobody would’ve been able to place her in that nightgown. I’m not even sure that he would’ve realized how much that would help them after it was found. I don’t think it was buried from the all accounts I can find. It sounds more like it was tossed from a moving vehicle. Which could’ve happened because of the urgency to get rid of evidence.
Also, the dogs lost her want at the end of the driveway.
Clearly, this is all speculation, but I have circled back to the “usually the easiest explanation is the correct one” theory.
Nothing in this case makes any sense. And there’s no need to argue one point and get ugly, because we all don’t really know what happened.
I personally don’t think that child ran away that night. Night that night if all nights.
Is there a chance that was Asha the witnesses saw? Possibly, but if it was, is it possible that something happened between her and Harold and he set her out? Maybe he pulled over to teach her a lesson if they got in an argument and she took off? Maybe the whole thing was just an accident that went terribly wrong.
If it wasn’t Harold, I think it was someone who lived really close to them. Possibly a family member from one of the other boy in their street. Or just a sick eighbor.

2024.06.10 17:50 Philosopher_Purple Troubleshooting mods en-masse

Hi all,
I have about seven thousand workshop items in my subscriptions, which I've organised into a few groups based on, for example, basic changes, scripts, or different location themes. I'm having trouble tracking down which one, or group, is causing the game to crash in the process of generating a new game with a set of about 100 that I've registered as Scripts that looked interesting, distinct from vehicles etc (sans a few I've already eliminated, e.g. Natural Town Growth). There are also references in the stdout to errors related to map generation mods 2008770320 and 2034917724 but those shouldn't impact the new game?
I'm not sure how to upload the stdout file here, so here's the list of mods I'm testing. Do any of these stand out?

2024.06.10 17:47 Think-Culture-4740 If Unions are so great, why do so many high skilled workers go to Industries without them?

I have to admit, I have reservations about making posts of this nature almost anywhere on Reddit. The last time I made a post illustrating what I thought was a clear-cut fact, about the myth of high marginal tax rates, among the wonderful responses were a lot of personal charges that I was some right-wing nut with an agenda.
So with that disclaimer, please, if you disagree with me, try argue why the logic of my post is wrong rather than some evil motivation I have to dominate the world. I would love to run as dictator of the United States but I doubt anyone would vote for me.
Back to unions.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/union2.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiP3qa8rNGGAxXEHkQIHZAlC8gQFnoECAQQBQ&usg=AOvVaw0HaIZ1pdWDSMkqF6FkilVr
It's remarkable how few of the private sector workers are employed in unions. It's also impressive to know that highest paying and most growing industries do not have them. As far as I'm aware there is no software engineering or mechanical engineering union.
The most heavily unionized industries are all involving government work and yet the pay terrible by comparison. The few private industries that have them, manufacturing, have seen the largest shrinking labor force size over time. So even if they have successfully negotiated for themselved, it is only signaled ever shrinking pond for employment.
https://www.bls.gov/opub/btn/volume-9/forty-years-of-falling-manufacturing-employment.htm
Let me quickly add one additional disclaimer. I'm trained in economics. A union at its core is a monopoly of labor. Like any Monopoly, it is bad in a vacuum. No less or worse than the same horrible monopolies that sparks public outrage.
And yet, I can understand And justify their existence provided they are in an industry that is also monopolized at the same time. It works as a counter to the monopoly power. This makes sense for someone like the NFL which has one dominant firm in the demand for labor.
But people who call for unions almost across the board don't understand that most businesses are not the NFL or the stereotypical standard oil of the 1920s.
Which circle's back to my original point at the top. All of the highest salaries and the kind of places that talented workers flock to are all places without any semblance of a union.

Introduction:
Many parents are asking questions like "Which board is the best: CBSE or ICSE?", "What's the difference between CBSE and ICSE boards?", or "Which board should I choose to help my child get more marks, CBSE or ICSE?" These questions are common among parents who are trying to decide the best schooling option for their children.
We understand this confusion, and that's why we've written a blog article for you. In this article, we explain the key differences between the ICSE and CBSE boards, their benefits, and what they have in common.
icse vs cbse
What is the ICSE board?
ICSE stands for Indian Certificate of Secondary Education ( ICSE ). ICSE is actually the exam conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations for class 10 students. Thus, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations or CISCE is a non-governmental, private school education board established in 1958. At school level, the CISCE conducts three examinations annually, namely, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education or ICSE - Class X; The Indian School Certificate or ISC - Class XII and the Certificate in Vocational Education CVE - Year 12.
what is the ICSE board ?
What is the CBSE board?
The Central Board of Secondary Education or the CBSE is a national level board of education in India for private and public schools. It is managed and controlled by the Indian Government. The board gives affiliation to roughly 26,054 schools in India and 240 schools in foreign countries. The CBSE is amongst the most popular education boards in India and schools affiliated to the CBSE strictly follow the NCERT curriculum.
What is the CBSE board ?
ICSE vs CBSE: Curriculum and Syllabus Structure
When we look at the syllabus and curriculum, the ICSE and CBSE boards are quite different. Both boards have their own set of subjects and focus areas. CBSE offers a balanced mix of subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Languages, along with a variety of electives such as Fine Arts, Computer Science, and Physical Education.
On the other hand, the ICSE also provides a similar range of subjects with a focus on English language proficiency, Literature, and Environmental Education.
As we can see, each board has its own strengths and plays a key role in shaping a bright future for students.
ICSE vs CBSE: Curriculum and Syllabus Structure
ICSE vs CBSE: TOP 5 Differences and Similarities
Here we will explore the top 5 differences and similarities between ICSE and CBSE board, making it easier for parents to take informed decisions about their child’s education.
1.ICSE vs CBSE: Syllabus
If we take a closer look, the differences in the syllabus between the CBSE and ICSE boards are quite significant and easy to spot. As mentioned earlier, the CBSE syllabus concentrates on science and mathematics. It includes detailed studies in physics, chemistry, and biology.
ICSE offers a wide range of languages and subjects to study like – English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and creative subjects like agriculture, home science, humanities, arts, and cooking. The quality of education imparted by ICSE in English Language and Literature is highly appreciated nationwide because of the general notion that ICSE board focuses more on teaching English.
2. ICSE vs CBSE: Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction is a crucial factor to consider when choosing an educational board. CBSE does not prioritize any particular language, supporting education in both English and Hindi. On the other hand, ICSE give more importance to the English language. This again can be beneficial for students in future competitive exams. A significant advantage of ICSE over CBSE is its dedication to literature and language skills, which greatly contributes to the overall skill and personality development of the child.
3.ICSE vs CBSE: Challenges of Board Transfers
According to the CBSE board, there are 24,000 schools affiliated with them, including over 200 schools in 26 countries. On the other hand, ICSE has around 2,000 affiliated schools, mostly in India. CBSE students have an easier time transferring schools because there are more options available worldwide. However, ICSE students have fewer choices for transferring schools, mainly limited to India, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and UAE.
4. ICSE vs CBSE: Competitive Edge
When it comes to competitive advantage, parents can choose either CBSE or ICSE as both boards are great in their own ways. For national-level entrance exams like IIT-JEE and NEET, CBSE students may have an edge because the syllabus is more informative and theoretical, making it easier to approach these exams. On the other hand, ICSE students benefit from a deeper and more analytical syllabus, which prepares them well for any national or international competitive exam like TOEFL, IELTS, and SAT..
5. ICSE vs CBSE: Scholarships
Scholarships are an important factor to consider when choosing between CBSE and ICSE boards because this can help students from financially weaker backgrounds. CBSE, being a government-affiliated board, offers a wide range of scholarships to its students. This makes CBSE Schools as a whole widely accessible for students from weaker financial backgrounds
On the other hand, ICSE does not directly provide scholarships. Instead, it's up to the individual affiliated schools to decide if they want to introduce scholarship programs or not. This approach means that ICSE schools are generally less accessible to students from financially weaker backgrounds.
ICSE vs CBSE: which is better for the future ?
ICSE vs CBSE: which is better for the future ?
Both ICSE and CBSE boards are well-known in India. ICSE is a private Indian board, often seen as a more affordable option for international schools with an international syllabus. CBSE, on the other hand, is a national board accepted by students from all financial backgrounds. With the proper planning, students can do well in any board, whether its CBSE or ICSE. Many feel that those aiming for JEE or NEET usually prefer CBSE, while those interested in literature or studying abroad lean towards ICSE.
Conclusion
All things considered, based on their advantages and disadvantages, now parents can choose which board is most suitable for their child based on all factors. Both the boards offer good quality education, so depending on what you want for your child in future, you can finally take a decision. Remember, individual studies and efforts matter more than just the board. Regardless of the board, your child can do well and shine in their career with constant and diligent effort.

2024.06.10 17:40 mversion Building a wirelessly controlled speaker/amp switcher?

Hey guys, I have a setup where I have a stereo amplifier and a separate AV receiver connected to the same pair of speakers. A while ago I built a DIY amp selector using a DPDT toggle switch that operates pretty much like this product and it works fine.
However, most of my home is automated. Even switching from listening to music to watching movies activates various automations. The only thing manual is the need to flip the switch to select the correct amp.
I bought a few relay boards; 4 channel, 6ch, 16ch (eg. https://www.makerstore.com.au/product/elec-12vrelaymod-16chan/ ); thinking I'd hook it up to a Raspberry Pi so I can send commands to activate various GPIO pins and based on the current activity (music/movies) it would switch to the appropriate amp, but the more I think about it, the more absurd it seems.
Can anyone nudge me in the right direction as to how this might be achieved?
Here's a simple drawing of the setup. https://i.imgur.com/GL7PSxS.png
So in STATE A, there's a connection between the speaker and Amp 1. In STATE B, there's a connection only between the speaker and Amp 2.

2024.06.10 17:35 Byzantine_Merchant Where recruiting stands mid June

Hey all, taking a look at On3 and our visitor list right now. Using On3 since they seem to have actual updates. Note that I’m only running through our uncommitted.
May 31st Visits: We’ve already secured the commitment of Ohio WR Braylon Collier from this visit. It looks like we have a few more that are set to come to fruition.
3* IOL Darius Afalava- Utah native. Probably headed to Oklahoma.
3* CB LaRue Zamorano- California native. Made up some small ground. But looking like he’ll be going to USC still.
3* IOL Houston Kaahaania-Torres- Hawaii native. Between Nebraska and Cal as of now.
3* DL Mykah Newton - Florida native. Between UCF and NC State.
3* TE Jayden Savoury- Michigan native. He’s predicted to be coming to Michigan State.
3* DL Brad Fitzgibbon- Illinois native. Predicted to come to Michigan State.
3* ATH Bradley Gompers- Pennsylvania. He’s leaning Pitt but the prediction shows 37% Pitt, 32% Michigan State so there’s still a chance.
0* ATH Jon Denman- Texas native. Projects as an RB. Looks like he’s predicted to come to Michigan State. Considering that we have a few more RBs set to visit, he might have to hold on his commitment.
Out of 9 visitors, it looks like we’d land 4 maybe 5 as of right now. One of which is already committed.
June 7th Visits: Weird OV weekend as 4/7 are already committed. Still ground again has been made.
3* IOL Drew Nichols- California native. It looks like Michigan State is set to land him.
0* EDGE Sherrod Henderson- North Carolina native. Another dog fight recruitment, it looks like he leans Virginia Tech but we’re still in this recruitment.
0* WR Charles Taplin- Texas native. It looks like he’s predicted to come here.
So out of our 3 uncommitted visitors. As of right now, it looks like we’re set to land 2 of them.
Upcoming June 14th Visits: We’re set to have 8 people on campus, 1 of which is already committed in Emmett Bork. Here’s where it stands as of now.
4* S Tariq Hayer- Maryland native. He just committed to Rutgers.
3* CB Chris McCorkle- Florida native. He’s currently committed to Indiana and committed on April 26th, he’s since become warm to us and scheduled an OV.
3* LB Grant Beerman- Ohio native. It’s between Cincinnati and Purdue heading into the weekend. Still a chance to gain ground though.
3* ATH Bradley Martino- Florida native. Committed to Minnesota yesterday.
3* EDGE Tyrone Burrus- Indiana native. Big opportunity here. Indiana looks like it’s a slight lead over us. This OV could seal the deal for us.
3* WR Chase Collier- Florida Native. It looks like it’s between Michigan State and Baylor. Though as of right now, Michigan State is leading.
0* WR Myles Kendrick- Florida Native. Looks like it’s between Michigan State and USF. Again, we’re leading the recruitment.

2024.06.10 17:24 Cool-Argument-8540 Is this deck worth saving?

Is this deck worth saving?
Looking for any feedback on this deck off the back of recent old house purchase. I believe the deck was built in the 1990s. Built on these concrete cylinders that seem to be partially buried (?). Lots of junk under the deck so kind of hard to see but all the supports look about same. Deck actually feels sturdy and solid accept for the fact that all the boards on top are rotting rendering it barely usable in current state. The deck is huge and if we had to rebuild we would do a much smaller footprint (or patio) but even that isn’t in the budget for a few years with all the other work this house needs. The deck is attaiched to house and about 3 feet off ground at tallest point. It wraps around the house on one side. Last picture is the main part of back deck. Trying to decide what to do this summer: option 1)tear it down option 2) replace all of the top boards DIY style and maybe get several more years out of it? What you would you? Any input you can offer much appreciated. We haven’t talked to any pros yet or checked permits on deck.

2024.06.10 17:16 eichy815 Cavaliers: The Fearless Generation

I've been chronicling generational cohorts who contributed to American history prior to the beginning of the 20th Century. My most recent profile is of a generation that I've dubbed "Cavaliers":
https://medium.com/illumination/cavaliers-a-legacy-of-zeal-fixation-c318a24dd28c?sk=85dd191a21987162e814bf6e0b0b2df1
The middle portion of what Strauss and Howe refer to as “the Cavalier Generation,” I’d place this generation’s birthyears at 1628-1639.
Their stats:
Primary Birthyears: 1628-1639
Preceding Cusp: "Rumpus Rebels" (born approximately 1623-1627)
Succeeding Cusp: "Emerald Knights" (born approximately 1640-1644)
Origin of name: This generational moniker is derived directly from Strauss and Howe’s characterization of the mid-Seventeenth Century “nomad” archetype. Historians cite violence, chaos, and risk-taking as emblematic of this cohort. The were born during the Puritan “Great Migration” and the first couple of decades of the Atlantic slave trade. Some of them fought in King Philip’s War and the Bacon Rebellion. They watched the shift from Dutch to British colonialism across the North American continent, with their generation dying as the Eighteenth Century drew closer and arrived in the aftermath of the Salem Witch Trials.

2024.06.10 17:08 VaDOT Make emergency plans that consider your whole family in Virginia

Include pet safety in emergency travel plans
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is encouraging residents to make sure they have plans in place that include all members of their family before disaster strikes.
While hurricane season is officially underway in Virginia, preparedness is not limited to a single day or month, and now is the time to plan ahead for emergencies. Consider who makes up your household, including older adults, children, those living with disabilities and pets, and ensure everyone is prepared for disasters.
Stay informed about weather events and have your car prepared for emergency evacuations. This includes having a full tank of gas, jumper cables, cell phone charger, and blanket. Develop emergency kits for your family by considering everyone’s individual needs.
Assess your needs and make a plan. Every family has different needs that affect what steps to take to prepare everyone for a disaster. Whether you care for pets, children, or someone with a medical condition or disability, it’s important to know what the family needs to travel safely in an emergency evacuation. Figure out where you would go and what to bring when a disaster strikes.
June is also National Pet Preparedness Month. Ahead of an emergency, consider microchipping your pets or having a collar with tags to help locate them if they go missing. Stay up to date on their vaccines.
When traveling during an emergency evacuation, pets should have their own emergency kit. Pets should be appropriately contained or harnessed during car rides and should not be in the front seat. Don’t leave pets alone in a parked vehicle.
PET EMERGENCY KIT
Have the following items in a sturdy container ready to go ahead of a disaster:
Prior to travel, view the latest road and traffic conditions on VDOT’s free 511 mobile app, at 511virginia.org or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia.
Follow trusted sources for information such as VDOT, Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), Virginia State Police, National Weather Service, and your local government.
Visit VDEM’s website at vaemergency.gov/prepare for more tips on how to be ready for when disaster strikes.
