Poetic Form: Haiku

Definition: Haiku is a traditional Japanese poem consisting of three lines. The first and third lines have five syllables, and the second line has seven syllables, usually focusing on nature or a fleeting moment.
Example: An old silent pond (5) A frog jumps into the pond— (7) Splash! Silence again. (5)
Freewrite Prompt: The cherry blossoms danced on the breeze, painting a picture so serene that even the most hurried passerby couldn't help but pause and pen a haiku in their mind.

2024.05.15 06:30 poggoboi Maybe I'm just coping hard but...

I was scrolling through UNIS GLOBAL in Facebook and came across this post:
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/HJaZmZPheds1BvWa/?mibextid=oFDknk
And this post made me realize something. Their What is Love performance was sort of the amalgamation of their constant hardwork (in a sense). This performance showed the following:
  1. Gehlee's dancing improved significantly. She's always been more of a smooth dancer, shining especially on more slower tracks like Beautiful back in UT. But on more faster tracks she seems to always struggle or at the very least have a hard time, her moves often times looks stiff, which is not a good compliment to her usual smooth dancing. So often times, she ends up looking sloppy, but in this performance we can clearly see that she improved her dancing ability to faster tracks. And maybe this is just out of pure love from TWICE, but her expression the entire performance is just a massive improvement from her usual somewhat awkward smile, she looks genuinely elated throughout the performance and her expression showed it. It gave of this starry-eyed, curious teen impression, which is necessary in performing a TWICE song like What is Love.
  2. Kotoko's promising vocals. One of the main criticism about Kotoko back in UT days was that she's very weak vocally, and I used to agree to that (looking at it constructively, of course). But her “I'm gOoOoOoOoOd” part in SUPEREWOMAN, showed massive promise. No offense, but I think that the J-Line along with Gehlee are the most handful members to be distributed a line to, not because they're bad vocalist, but rather because of they're unique vocal quality. In the sense that if you put them in specific parts of a song, it sounds extremely good and invokes the necessary feeling, but at the same time, putting them in other specific parts could feel out of place. The way I could describe those three is that: Nana's voice is breathy, perfect for conveying emotion and should be preferably used in more lower register, best example is Dream of Girls. Gehlee's voice is low registered, best utilized for highlighting low register killing parts and being second or last chorus like in Dopamine to switch things up and make their songs sonically dynamic. And lastly, Kotoko's voice is more on the high pitch side, should preferably be used in stylish parts like a falsetto with preferably Elisia adlibbing (more on this later) and also probably the rap parts too, because her rapping tone is a good contrast to Yoona's rapping. Sorry for the long unrelated yapping, but overall, I think that they're doing a good job improving Kotoko's unique voice and it shows in this performance.
  3. And lastly Elisia's ad-libbing. My personal favourite UT performance is Beautiful, because of the absolute god-sent of a performance that was, vocally. And a huge reason to that, is because of Elisa's ad-libs, her ad-libs adds that necessary emotional and vocal depth. And even way back in her Red Flavor performance, she was already trying to adlib although she was discouraged to do so. The biggest reason on why I think Elisia is arguably one of the best vocalist in 5th gen is because of her ability to impact and add to a song, regardless of whether is sing or being a back up vocal. And although it is subtle, I think this performance is a great practice for her to expand her vocal abilities by essentially playing backseat and still adding something to the song (although I do hope that they start giving her more lines in their CB).
Overall, there was a lot, and I mean A LOT of things wrong with the performance but we can't just ignore that positives and undeservedly write the performance off. I, for one, am also immensely disappointed in the distribution of this performance and their album but we can only hope that FNF will listen to our pleas and distribute the lines to the girls more fairly, but in the mean time, let's just focus on the goods and not let the negatives affects us too much.

2024.05.15 06:30 Kindly_Travel9775 Rage issues

Hello everyone! Very long post ahead…It’s been 3 months since last D-Day. We’ve had multiple D-Days over the span of 8 years ive lost count how many. Why so many? Because the first 7 years he would confess to things but it would be soo watered down I never truly realized he was a Sex addict as well as a PA. The full 8 years he would mix it up between frequenting massage parlors, bringing call girls to his hotel on work trips, visiting strip clubs and paying for lap dances, and eventually the latest- finding phone prostitutes to chat with and develop an “emotional bond” as well as phone sex. I almost left him but he begged for a last chance and it’s been three months since last D-Day, and he’s finally been putting work into recovery- he has admitted how bad the situation is, admitted he’s an addict, and started going to weekly SA group meetings, and weekly CSAT therapist. This time, I can see actual change because he initiates conversations and constant check in’s as well as daily evening check ins. He has become way less irritable and annoyed in all areas, and more patient and helpful and loving. He has willing put heavy restrictions on his phone and accountability apps, as well as removed Instagram, telegram, Snapchat. He has been very conscious and proactive about how he spends his time- he has developed new habits like absolutely no phone in bathroom/on toilet/in shower. He doesn’t pick up his phone first thing in the morning and has made a “morning routine” of ice bath plunge as well as meditation and prayer, and Bible reading. He is finally fully present with our family and wants to do things as a family, and initiates family bonding activities. He’s stopped chasing his bosses, coworkers, friends, and his parents approval, and focuses on his inner balance. I’ve seen an immense change in him like I’ve never seen before as a person and as a recovering addict. He is doing everything right. However….
I’ve been extremely supportive and loving and his shoulder during this whole time. But now I’m terrified because I’ve been having unexplained rage episodes. We can have a small misunderstanding and it will just throw me into a fit of extreme rage, where I will throw whatever objects are near me, or try to hurt myself for example I slammed my hand shut in between a door on purpose. It’s just this overwhelming sense or hatred and anger just bursting in me and it seems it just burst right out of me. I have never ever in my life felt like this, I’ve always been a meek and kind and sweet person and taken pressure with stride. I see myself from the side after my fits of anger and I think… He really broke me this time didn’t he? I begged him to stop in his addiction and he didn’t, until I was finally broken. I am not the same person I was before, and I know all you partners of PA/SA can relay to this. I see the world now through an addicts eyes- every single woman is a threat, and every single man is not safe, and every child/teen/woman is either in threat of becoming a victim or is already a victim. I’ve also become more cold and cut off people whereas before I would believe in the good and people and was a warm accepting person. However my main concern is the intense fits of rage I feel. Has anyone else felt something similar? What helped or what did your therapist recommend? I’m scared and just feel soo broken 😞

Throwaway for obvious reasons.
My (17F) stepmother "Jane" is a wonderful, wonderful woman. She and my father got married when I was 4, and she's been a rock in my life ever since. My mother was always my primary caregiver, but up until that point her relationship with my father was acrimonious and I basically never saw him. Jane was the reason they developed a stable co-parenting relationship, she encouraged everyone having a good relationship with each other and was always there to support me and my mom when things got rough.
Jane was always a really hard worker. When she met my dad, he was living out of a hotel and my mother was doing everything in her power to keep me away from him because she was petty and angry that their relationship didn't work out. Meanwhile Jane had a great job, a nice house, helped my dad get back on his feet, negotiated a visitation schedule with my mom (who hated her for a long time), and made sure my dad sent us money every week because neither one of them could afford an attorney to negotiate child support payments. Jane had no reason to do any of these things but as I got older she made it clear that she loved me as much as she loved my (half) brothers who were born a few years later. I even have my own room in her house because at the time we lived with my grandparents / various boyfriends of my mom and Jane felt that I needed a more stable environment than that. She's like the opposite of the evil stepmom.
When I was 15, Jane won a big lawsuit against an airline company and got awarded upwards of a million dollars. She used the money to build sizable trust funds for me and my brothers so that we would be taken care of later in life. Despite having a lot more money she still wanted to live a fairly modest life, so she paid off the house she has and has been living there ever since with my dad. Sure she bought a new car and they went on a few nice vacations but she didn't blow all her money on stupid things, which I respected.
About a year ago, things started getting really weird. Whenever I saw Jane she seemed to look sicker and sicker, but no one would tell me or my brothers why even though I know they knew. All we knew is that she was at the hospital a lot. Around the same time, my mom has been coming around my dad a lot more and acting really strange, basically like she was trying to romance him. Whenever Jane was in the hospital my mother would insist on spending the night at their house and playing mom to my brothers, which was so weird to me because she never liked them or Jane. She'd be the perfect little housewife and my mom is NOT like that at all. It was super fake.
Worst of all, my dad started falling for it. I'm not stupid - I'm pretty sure they were sleeping together. I tried to shield my brothers from it but they're not dumb either. I tried talking to my dad too but he insisted it wasn't like that.
Then a few weeks ago, my mom started talking about all the places she'd like to visit, how she wanted a new car and was looking to invest... which is weird because my mom has been a bartender her whole life and has lived paycheck to paycheck since before I was born. She was acting like she was about to get a lot of money, which started to make me really suspicious. Between Jane being sick and my mom acting all nouveau riche, I had a lot of questions.
Finally I decided to visit Jane in the hospital and ask her about my trust fund. I found out that if anything happened to her, that my dad would inherit all the money including full control of the trusts for me and my brothers. She asked me why I was so interested in the trust fund so I told her what's going on with my parents and how my mom has been acting with my dad. I didn't want to but after everything she did for me, she deserved the truth. It really hurt me to break her heart like that, especially once I found out that she was basically in hospice at this point because of irreversible kidney failure. She's only got a few more months. We both cried so much.
Then, two days ago everything came to a head. My mom stormed in furious and started arguing with my dad. Apparently Jane met with her lawyer and changed the trust so that my dad would get nothing and all of the trusts would be controlled by my step-aunt. She demanded to know how Jane found out about their relationship and I came out and told them that I told Jane everything. I told them that if they wanted to play stupid games they would win stupid prizes and that I wasn't going to let them screw Jane over after all the help she gave my family when she didn't have to.
My mom slapped me and my dad just looked so defeated. Then my mom told my dad that she didn't really love him, that she was just pretending to so he would marry her and she could get all of the money. The worst part about it is that my brothers witnessed the whole thing and now on top of their mom dying they have to deal with a cheating dad and his vindictive ex. Our whole family is in ruins and I feel like it's my fault even though I know it's not.
Yesterday I visited Jane again and told her about the fallout. She apologized and said that she had to dissolve my trust fund to make sure my mother didn't get a hold of the money, but that as "her oldest" I will inherit the house/property after she is gone and that's worth more than the other two trust funds combined. My father won't get anything because she's going to divorce him before she dies, and honestly I'm happy for her. She made me promise to take care of my brothers and told me that once I turn 18 this summer I can kick my dad out of the house if I want to. And I FULLY plan to do that btw.
I haven't talked to my dad since and I can't even look at my mom. I can't believe they would conspire to do this to Jane after all this time. Just proof that they deserve each other and I'm embarrassed that they're my parents. Once I turn 18 I'm going to cut my dad out as much as I can and cut my mom out completely. I hope she rots. Meanwhile I'm going to try and be at the hospital as much as I can until Jane passes away.
Anyways. I just needed to vent. I'm really messed up about the whole thing and I feel super betrayed, although I can't even begin to imagine how Jane feels. I'm gonna be so f-ed up when she dies. I can't even think about that right now. But at least she's not surrounded by people who just want to bring her down.
Thanks for reading.
Edit: Some people are asking a lot of the same stuff so I'll just clarify here --
My brothers - My plan is to use some of the estate money fight for guardianship for my twin brothers so that they can live in the house while I kick my dad out. If I can't get guardianship then I will have to let my dad stay in the house. However once I turn 18 I will technically be an adult so even if my dad leaves I'm still legally able to be responsible for them. The only thing I won't be able to do is stop him from taking them if he leaves. But they will be 18 in six years so even if they do have to leave they will always be able to come back whenever they want. In a perfect world my dad would just leave and let my brothers stay with me which I'm sure my bio-mom would be very supportive of because right now she hates all of us and I doubt that will change anytime soon.
The trust - from what I understand, my brothers will inherit 1/3 each of the estate and the remaining 1/3 will be used to keep the house running until they turn 18. After that it will be up to me if I want to keep the house or sell it. At that point my brothers will still have money left in the trust so they can branch out or do whatever they want, otherwise I will not sell the house and just pass it on to them or keep it and maintain it myself and they can just stay with me as long as they need to.
(Edit to the edit) So I just spoke to Jane and she told me that the reason she dissolved the trust is because originally it was going to be split 3x between us kids and my dad would inherit the house. She dissolved my 3rd and switched it over to make it to take care of the house maintenance, and instead put the house in my name so my dad wouldn't get it. Plus by doing that at least financially I would be getting a much bigger share (the house is worth about 1.5x the amount of my brothers trusts) I just wouldn't be able to do anything with it until my brothers are 18, which I'm totally cool with. Sorry if I don't have a better answer but I'm just trying to translate what she told me.
My parents - The big fight happened on Sunday and I haven't spoken to either of my parents since, I think they're both at my mom's place right now but that's fine with us because we're all still mad at them so they can stay gone for all we care. I know technically that's not legal to just leave us alone but I've been taking care of my brothers for over a year I can handle a few days while he gets his shit together. Screw both of them.
Hope that clears some stuff up.
TLDR; My bio parents tried to screw my terminally ill stepmother out of trust fund money, but she caught on and now no one on my side of the family gets anything.
Additional Information from OOP on her parents, stepmom’s health, trust funds
OOP: (Why isn't Jane on dialysis) - I don't remember the exact details but Jane has a genetic condition where she gets cysts on her kidney. She already had a transplant a few years ago but now she developed problems with her arteries or something in her legs so she doesn't qualify for dialysis. She could get another transplant but she doesn't want to because the last time was so traumatic (rejections, etc). So she decided to just let herself go onto maintenance medications to prolong her death until she gets her affairs in order. She has a few other health problems that make the typical treatments really dangerous and according to her she'd rather die surrounded by loved ones than on an operating table.
(Dissolving the trust fund) - Jane told me she didn't technically have to do it, but she didn't trust my bio parents not to do something shady and get a hold of the money before I turn 18. Even if my aunt controlled the fund my dad would still be able to collect if something happened to Jane before I turn 18. Her lawyer suggested it's better safe than sorry and I agreed that it was the best option. I'm not an expert tho I don't know the details.
(How my mom knew) - Like I said before I'm pretty sure Jane told my dad, who then told my mom and that's how the argument started. I can't think of any other way and I didn't really care enough to ask.
(Jane's thoughts on my mom) - she didn't know my mom was doing all of that. My mom has her own place and would only come over whenever Jane was in the hospital for a few days at a time. I've been living with my dad for a little over a year so he probably told Jane that my mom was there to spend time with me, if he told her at all. Besides she didn't "move in" until a few months ago, which I guess is when they started hatching their plan. Jane never outright banned my mom from visiting so there really wasn't anything she could do.
Hope that helps.
Edit for the last part: The remainder of the money belonging to the estate that hasn't been put into trusts for my brothers is going to be used to maintain the house (utilities, taxes, etc) until my brothers are 18 and then I can either choose to sell the house or keep it and maintain it myself if I'm able to. I plan to go to school in that time and get a better job with the goal of keeping the house, but if I can't then I have the option to sell it. Not that I will but that's how it was explained to me.
OOP on her stepmom and their relationship, provides thoughts on her bio mom
OOP: Honestly it's because she's more of a "real" mom than my actual mom.
My bio mom is kind of ambiguous about my existence but Jane was always extra involved, sending me to sports teams and paying for dance classes and just showing interest in my hobbies as I got older. Plus as the only girl I think we bonded on a level she can't with my brothers so she always made sure to let me know I was on equal terms with them. When I was younger we would watch movies and have girl time where it was just us 1:1 and those are some of my best memories with her.
Jane is also really mature and someone I wanna be like when I get older whereas it feels like my mom is a teenager in an adult's body. She was constantly picking fights with my dad about dumb things and Jane was always there to smooth things over and keep my best interest at heart over her own feelings. I know my mom made Jane's life really difficult for a long time but Jane never complained or said anything to me about it whereas my mom CONSTANTLY complained about Jane. As I got older I just always felt more at peace when I was around Jane than when I was around my mom.
If you want your step kids to love you just be there for them and treat them like your own. Ignore whatever drama you have with your husbands ex and just love your kids. Trust me if you really care about them they will know.

mattdvs1979: My only advice is make sure you work with a lawyer once she passes so you get your inheritance and your parents can’t try to intervene, and then you keep your promise to use that money for you and your brothers’ welfare.
OOP: Oh absolutely, Jane already gave me the lawyer's info and between him and my step-aunt I'm sure I will be able to do what I need to do for them. I don't even care about the money, most people don't have trust funds and turn out just fine. I'm actually more glad that she gave me the house because you can be damn sure it's going to be a safe space for my brothers whether I end up getting custody of them or not. My brothers are basically Jane's legacy so my goal is to give them the life and guidance that I got from her, and that they won't get because she'll be gone.
OOP on the relationship between her father and her stepmom before they got exposed
OOP: Honestly it hurts a lot because before Jane got sick they seemed to have the perfect relationship. Until my birthgiver (I like that) came in and fucked everything up with her toxic personality. Honestly in a perfect world my mom will end up broke and alone and in a shitty nursing home with bed sores. And when she calls me and begs me for a relationship (because she needs the attention) it'll feel so good to hang up on her over and over again.
OOP on Jane (stepmom)’s health and if Jane is mentally okay on the whole situation
OOP: I think so. Apparently it's a genetic disease so she always knew she was going to get sick she just didn't know when so mentally I think she was prepared for it. I just hope that she can find peace knowing the truth and knowing that I'll be there to make sure her sons don't grow up all fucked up.
OOP on her brothers getting therapy to deal with their mom/step-mom’s health and her imminent death
OOP: Yeah. I've already sat them down and talked to them about what's going on, they seem to understand but they're understandably really sad about the whole thing. I told them that when they go to school they should ask about a grief counselor and I'm trying to get their health insurance info from Jane so I can find them a therapist for kids. As much as all of this sucks I think it's brought the three of us a lot closer together.
Thanks a lot. I really love my brothers and I know it's my job to take care of them properly now that they won't have a mom around. Jane did so much to raise me and my brothers won't have the opportunity so it's only right that I help them.
Since finding all of this out my plan has always been to have my brothers live with me, I'm already in charge of taking care of them and the house for the most part the only thing my dad does is help pay the bills. Unfortunately I won't be able to kick my dad out as long as he's their legal guardian which is why I'm trying to find some other solution to that. But if/when that gets resolved he can live under a bridge for all I care.

Update: May 8, 2024 (3 months later)
Please check my profile for my previous post. :)
Hi guys it’s me again, a lot of you asked me for an update on my situation with Jane and my family so I’ve come back with a few things that have happened since I initially posted. I will try to organize this in a way that addresses the major points of last time.
Jane is still alive and doing surprisingly well considering the circumstances. She’s always been a fighter and although her disease has been progressing she’s keeping a positive attitude with everything that is going on. She says she’s grateful that she was able to see everyone’s true colors before she passed so she could go into the next life knowing the truth. We have become so unbelievably close in the past few months and it’s getting harder and harder to know that she’s getting close to the end. She doesn’t ever talk about it though and I know it’s because she doesn’t want to hurt me but we both know the situation so we’re just making the best of our time. I'm also not being completely transparent about all of the drama at home but tbh I don't think she needs to hear all of that.
We did end up having that surprise celebration of life that I planned, a lot more people showed up than I thought but they all got an airbnb near the hospital where Jane is and we were able to take her out and spend some time at the lake near the facility. It was super lowkey which I know Jane preferred and I was even able to get her old college friend to come after I found him on Linkedin lol. We had food and there was music and we played games and it was overall a really great time, except Jane started crying at the end but she promised me it was just because she was grateful.
My brothers are also doing okay, my aunt (Jane's sister) is currently paying for them to go to therapy and they've become a lot more open about talking about the situation. They just turned 13 but a lot of the time it feels like I'm talking to actual adults lol. They've become really independent lately (in a good way) and aside from me driving them places I don't really have to do much for them anymore. Their grades aren't super great but they're not failing and considering the circumstances it could be a lot worse. They still hang out with friends and I'm keeping an eye out for like depression symptoms and stuff.
The situation with my mom is as funny as it is embarrassing tbh. She spent a few weeks ignoring us and then she tried to crawl back into my life basically begging me to let her move in because her lease is about to expire and she has nowhere to go. That convo went about as well as you'd think and she ended up calling me an ungrateful b**** and that I couldn't just ignore her because she's my mom. I told her to get out of the house before I call the cops and to go back to my dad (who at that point was only coming home every few days to "check on us" and grab some clothes.)
After that she tried coming by a few times and when I wouldn't open the door she would lose her mind and start yelling through the neighborhood. After three instances of this I finally called the cops but because I'm 17 they told me there's a possibility that I would have to go home with her since technically I'm a minor and need to be with the custodial parent. I told them no way because I was the only one watching my brothers atm. That led to a whole thing where after a few hours my dad basically showed up and I was allowed to stay there because there was finally an adult present and I'd basically lived there for over a year.
After that the cops firmly told my mom that if she keeps showing up and causing drama (my neighbors confirmed that she'd been there a few times screaming) that they would arrest her for trespassing since technically it was Jane's house and not hers. She left and hasn't tried coming to the house anymore but for a while she would call me constantly telling me I owed her and all kinds of stuff. She's now blocked on everything and anything she needs to say to me gets filtered through my dad.
As for my dad... well, since he's basically required to be here for another 2 months until I turn 18 we've basically just avoided each other. It's not too bad though because I've been heavily relying on guilting him for everything to get my way. For example he was going to contest the divorce but I threatened to kick him out when I turn 18 if he does that so he just signed all the paperwork for a "quickie divorce" and is basically doing whatever Jane tells him to do. I don't openly disrespect him or anything (he's still my dad) but I've made it clear that I have no intentions on doing anything he says ever again and he doesn't fight me on it. Most of the time he's just in his room and sometimes he'll go back to my mom's but only for a day or two before they argue and she kicks him out again lol. I haven't decided whether or not I'll kick him out yet and we haven't talked about it either so I'm kind of playing it by ear.
As for me, I'm handling everything as good as I can. I found a new job where I make a little more money so I've been focusing on saving as much as I can and just being there for my brothers. Between working and school and visiting Jane I've been so busy I haven't really had time to really stop and think about everything, but I know it'll come. One of my friends has really stepped up and helped me manage everything and I'm super grateful to him for being there for me and my brothers so we'll see how that goes.
Anyways I wish I had something more exciting to share but that's what's happened since my last post :) Thanks again for all the support on my last post.

OOP on the possibility of her stepmom being poisoned from her parents to get Jane’s money
OOP: Hi there,
A few people have mentioned this and yes we are absolutely certain she is not being poisoned, it’s a genetic disease causing her kidney failure and we have known about it for a long time but she shielded us from the worst of it hence why her “sudden” decline in health was such a shock to us, we thought she had more time.
My brothers have also been screened for this disease and thankfully neither of them have it.
Edit to add: I’m turning 18 in a few weeks so I don’t need to get emancipated and my dad has already agreed that my brothers will stay in the house with me because they have nowhere else to go.
OOP on Jane making video clips for her brothers
OOP: Yes actually a few people suggested this on my last post and we have been doing this for a few weeks now. Jane has a little digital recorder that she’s been putting her thoughts down on and she’s also written a few letters to us for major milestones. My brothers do not know about this as we want to surprise them but that said they have been coming to the hospital more now that they’re in therapy and able to deal with it. I know they do not want to have any regrets even though it’s a difficult situation.
OOP on her father after being exposed and her bio mom trying to manipulate him
OOP: I do think he’s remorseful, he hasn’t said it but the way he’s acting is telling me that, he’s being really passive when normally he gets a little belligerent if he really feels like he didn’t do anything wrong. Also I know I have every reason to kick him out but he’s still my dad even tho what he did to Jane was terrible. He’s just kind of a weak minded person and my bio mom really manipulated the crap out of him and continues to manipulate him but I can tell he’s getting tired of her BS because he’s spending less time with her.
He didn’t know she was showing up at the house and when he found out he was super pissed at her, they’ve been fighting nonstop and I can tell he’s not as much under her spell anymore because he’s at home more but who knows.

2024.05.15 05:59 ForeverNugu Music Show Performances Where the Mics Are On?

It's totally understandable why there's so much AR and pre recording on music shows and it's not a big deal. Promotions are physically demanding and the shows are not filmed with optimal conditions. All groups have lipsynced/had excessively loud backtrack at some point. No shame.
But I really enjoy when you can at least hear a good portion of the vocals above the backtrack and it really feels live and connected. Even if the vocals aren't perfect and they are really affected by the choreo, I prefer that to lip synced perfection. And I'm always amazed that idols can sing as well as they do with the crazy dancing involved.
Do you have favorite examples of music show performances where you can hear the vocals?
Here a a couple of mine
EXO CBX - Blooming Day - Music Core https://youtu.be/q7ZKDr8Y_Dk?si=yfog_OvcxhwcWPqI
Monsta X - Dramarama - Music Core https://youtu.be/25j9iHMjxEk?si=UxZT2keQ5fAKXapx

2024.05.15 05:30 tools44 Anyone else having difficulty getting Plex/Plexamp to recognize release types?

Couple of months ago I saw a post that showed how to get Plex and Plexamp to recognize Live/Singles/EPs/Compilation tags and how to format them so the Plex Dance picks them up. Updated my entire library and it worked like a charm. Seems like ever since 1.40xxxx, new additions no longer update. Yes, I do the refresh metadata. Yes, I am using local metadata. Nothing has changed on my end. The stuff that updated has stayed updated, but for example, new Live albums do not update to Live in Plex. I haven't seen anyone else post that here so I was wondering if it's happening to anyone else.

2024.05.15 04:35 Outside_Jaguar3827 AAPI Month Bridgerton Special: "The Seven Sisters" Region/Northeast India 🇮🇳

I can't believe Season 3 will be released in less than 48 hours 😆 ! To celebrate the occasion (and kill time, to be honest), I decided to release my installment for AAPI Month. Since Kate, our lovely viscountess, Bridgerton showcased South India/Tamil heritage 🪷, I picked another region of India in honor of her. Let me know what you think:
HISTORY🧭: There are eight states that make up Northeast India, majority of those are known as the "Seven Sisters". Those are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tiropita (they have a "brother" state called Sikkim). The earliest recorded interaction with the British Empire occur in 1763, when the Kingdom of Manipur allied with them to combat the Burmese Kingdom. In 1823 (towards the end of the Regency Era), Manipur would officially become a "princely state" and ally with the East India Company. https://www.commonwealthroundtable.co.uk/commonwealth/eurasia/india/opinion-manipur-the-british-legacy/
SOUTHEAST & EAST ASIAN INFLUENCES⛩️: Compared to the other regions, Northeast India has more East Asian influences, particularly China (Ex. Tibet) and Burma (modern-day Myanmar). This can be seen with their genetics 🧬 , architecture 🏯, and cultural traditions 🎋. For example, Rongali Bihu (a holiday in Assam) has Tibeto-Burman roots. Furthermore, bamboo crafts are popular in Mizoram (popular during the Han Dynasty), Buddhism ☸️ is a major religion in Northeast India, and contains more non-vegetarian dishes than most of India. https://thegeopolitics.com/northeast-india-southeast-asia-revisiting-the-shared-cultural-past-while-paving-the-way-forward/
CUISINE🍛: The highest levels of meat consumption 🍖can be found in Northeast India. Furthermore, the popular dishes in this region take influences from Chinese, Burmese, Tibetan, and Nepalese cuisines. Popular dishes include: Jadoh 🍚 (basmati or red rice with pork), Muya Bai Wahan Chakhwi (pork and bamboo shoot curry with rice), Pitha (traditional rice cake), and Momo (dumplings that originate from Nepal). Lastly, they have a prominent beer culture 🍻, producing rice beers like Zutho, Apong, and Chuak/Chuwak. https://www.cntraveller.in/story/your-guide-northeast-indian-food/
POLO🐎: The modern rules of polo comes from Sagol Kangjei or Manipuri polo. In fact, the Manipuri pony (one of the five Indian equine breeds) was bred by local royalty for cavalry and polo. British tea planters were fascinated with the sport and brought in back with them in 1869. Polo is a popular sport in most of the countries apart of the "Commonwealth of Nations" (along with 77 other countries ) and the World Polo Championship 🏆 occurs every three years. https://lapolo.in/blog/manipur-beginning-modern-polo
CLASSICAL DANCE🎭: Two of the "Classical Dances of India" originate from Northeast India; the Manipuri Raas Leela (from Manipur) and the Sattriya (from Assam). The former is characterized as being more "introverted" and "subdued" compared to the classical dances. The dancer normally showcases peaceful body movements and soft expressions with the eyes. The purpose of this dance is to honor the Raas Leela, a love 💕 story between Radha and Krishna. On the other hand, the Sattriya is more vibrant, with the dancers having intricate footwork and expressive hand movements. This dance was used in conjugation with the narration of religious stories and other myths. https://www.holidify.com/pages/dances-of-india-272.html

2024.05.15 04:07 Over-Moment6258 Anyone else have a new-found hatred of social life politics?

Just spent some time with some long distance friends and have realized that I just have patience for "social politics" anymore. All the little things in a social circle that go on, I just can't tolerate it anymore. Little things about how people act and their meaning, saying different things to different people, spotty communication, etc. etc.
One example, the one friend I told about my diagnosis told another. Already not great but after hanging out with the other one they obviously wanted to check on me but seemed to dance around it a bit, then of course I danced around the "How are you doing" answer because how deep do I go into it? But I did tell them I'm ok with them knowing about my MS and I'm open to talking about it and was told its ok they just wanted to be sure I'm ok. Then the original friend told me the other is actually REALLY curious about it but didn't know how to bring it up.
Did that exhaust you just to read? It exhausted me just to write. I'm sure a lot of friendships can be complex and have little fine-touches, but man I'm over it. Not necessarily only regarding the topic of MS, just in general.

2024.05.15 03:59 Kuroihane The Rattling of Dawn

(Scene i wrote to illustrate how Kassandra Kurze's SO could prevent her from destroying Nostarmo and falling into betrayal by proving her visions false, also English is not my first language so im sry for any mistakes you ll find)
“Say, captain, do you believe in fate?”

Dark corridors of the Nightfall were dimly lit with stripes of pale light, so resembling their homeworld traditions. Homeworld to which they headed now, as they got the news of recent rebellion. Morgenstern stood against one of the Emperor’s Angels, however he could not think of one soul to call this particular one an angel. Or any other space marine on this ship for that matter. Cold black eyes stared iterator down, there were no animosity in them. Just a faint blink of curiosity.

“What in that for you, iterator, we’re not on your peace talks right now,” said Jago Sevatarion, first captain of the Night Lords legion.

He pushed through the man standing before him and headed through the corridor. He heard steps of the mortal trying to catch up to him, almost skipping but still trying to uphold decency. The thought of any mortal maintaining a face before him amused the Night Lord. Morgenstern caught up with the space marine. They walked in a silence for a few moments.

“Lady Kassandra is going to sentence Nostramo to Exterminatus,” said iterator. He sounded calm, but heightened senses of a space marine gave away his slightly hightened heartrate to Jago.

First captain quickly glanced at the man beside him.

“That is for Mother to decide,” he said quietly, “If she deems this planet a lost cause, so be it.”

“And what do you think, captain?” iterator asked, sounding unnaturally passionlessly, “I thought of you as a rare example of independent thinker on this whole fleet. I thought you of all people knew, that our Lady’s judgments could be… affected.”

Space marine stopped suddenly, causing Morgenstern to flinch. Iterator however held his composure, stopping himself and turning to the Night Lord, man’s cloak clicking from a quick movement as he did so.

“Are you questioning the primarch, mortal?” black flame danced dangerously in the eyes of the first captain.

“Are you not?”

Jago hated that for all that he wanted he could not refute this man.

“What do you want me to do?” if Morgenstern didn’t know who was before him, he would have thought Night Lord sounded helplessly.

“I suggest you listen to your own words, captain,” iterator began slowly, “I suggest for the first time you try to do better.”

***

Bridge airlocks closed and all that Morgenstern caught before was a flash of purple eyes. Moments later sound of titanic strike reverberated through the whole deck. Jago Sevatarion, who stood next to iterator felt hope for the first time in his life. Hope for airlocks to withstand and for this mortal to turn out right.

“What does it mean, Morgenstern?” even muffled by airlocks, Primarch’s voice felt suppressing.

“Canons are disarmed, Lady Kassandra.” Morgenstern said after a long silence.

“That is not what supposed to be,” said Night Huntress.

“It Is indeed not.”

Series of strikes shook the deck. Jago looked at the iterator. However, he flinched each time primarch’s hit landed on bridge’s gates, Morgenstern still firmly stood against them, hands behind his back.

“OPEN THE GATES AND DO WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO, COWARD!” shout from the other side of the airlocks made iterator suffer from a headache. He turned to the first captain.

“I will kindly ask you to leave, Jago,” he said firmly. First captain measured mortal with his glance for a moment.

Space marine turned away from the bridge, “It is your funeral, iterator.”

“Then I will expect flowers from you, captain,” primarch’s screams in the background became more chaotic and loud.

“You better love plastic, it is the best we have on Nostramo.” Night Lord’s words were distant.

Iterator smiled to this unexpected joke from space marine and focused his sight on the gates. Strikes still fell on their steel.

“I SWEAR, MORTAL, YOU WILL REGRET THAT DECISION AS I WILL BE MAKING MYSELF A ROBE OUT OF YOUR SKIN WITH YOU STILL BREATHING!”

Now, that is just rude, Morgenstern thought to himself trying to stay calm as Kassandra Curze’s words made a cold sweat run down his back.

Screams and threats continued, but as time went on iterator started to notice something new in Night Huntress voice. Pain started as thin threads in the fabric of her voice, growing thicker until all that was there was agony. It was so alive, so unbearable that Morgenstern felt pain in his own heart. That were screams of a broken angel, who never got to fly, sunken in the mortal sin from the start of existence.

And then there was silence.

Iterator suddenly felt that there was no threat inside the bridge. He came up to the airlocks and sat down on the floor, leaning his back on the gates.

“You should have just killed me,” Kassandra’s voice was broken, as if she was crying.

Nonsense, Morgenstern thought, crying is for mere mortals.

He closed his eyes. Iterator didn’t want to see anything right now.

2024.05.15 02:11 forzamaria Favourite last 5/10 seconds outro of songs?

Sounds a weird question but I really love when a song ends with a outro that fades out with a last few chords or something different. It's like ending the song triumphantly or on a cliffhanger
Examples:
Beyonce - I Care (la la la la la outro, if you listen carefully the pitch of the last la la goes higher)
Kesha - Supernatural (few seconds of piano)
Spice Girls - 2 Become 1 (it gets that haunting bass and fades out)
Lana Del Rey - Flipside (the guitar gets all twangy and I love it)
Utada Hikaru - Kimi Ni Michu (she sounds like Ariel from Little Mermaid with those harmonies whilst AG Cook's instrumental goes hard)
Troye Sivan - Dance to this ft. Ariana Grande (when you hear them both duetting for the last few seconds as it fades out)
Charli XCX - Gone (can't explain it but I love it)
Thanks guys sorry if I haven't explained it well, hopefully the examples help lol.

2024.05.15 01:13 Aristocratic_Nights Is this abuse?

I have two reddit accounts, so if these stories are familiar, that's why. Someone commented that one of these sounds like abuse from my Christian parent to me. So I've compiled all most of them here. (Most of them are to do with Christianity, the hypocrisy of Christianity, or the consequences of my choice to leave it.) Please be honest but also recognize that this isn't all the times sometimes these are amazing people and I love these people but for my sake I need to know if it's really that bad.
"I'm rather young. My mom (42F) and my dad (41M) both grew up in the church. My grandfather is the pastor of his own church and my mother was raised by her grandmother who played piano in the church. Growing up I'd say I was the perfect little Christian girl. I liked praying and went to church, I wanted to help the world, and I wanted to be baptized before I even started kindergarten. I remember that vividly. I was sitting in the kitchen in one of our folding chairs because we couldn't afford real ones and I was begging my mom to let me get baptized.
My family and I are African American. The church I went to when I was little was a black church. My mother was the praise dance choreographer so of course I did praise dancing. I'd go to Sunday school, I wore the big puffy dresses, and I knew all the songs. Of course I had the common experience of being assaulted in a sexual manor by someone I went to church with. But we were both the same age and I just knew I was uncomfortable and she just knew that's how people bigger than us touched each other. All that came of me telling my mom and me not having to go to her house anymore. I was always told that I was intelligent and I believed everything I was told without question. Then my sister was born and we moved. At first everything stayed the same. We ended up having to switch churches as the previous one was an hour away from our new home. We found a new church. A church were you can wear your hoodie and jeans like it's a Tuesday. I made friends and played sports and nothing really changed until I was eight. When I was eight there was a girl on my softball team I'll call E. E is Jewish and at the time I thought everyone was Christian. As in Christianity was the default and only option. But my friend E's church wasn't called a church but a synagogue, and she couldn't eat specific foods together. E also talked about BaBat Mitzvah's. When I brought that up to my mom she said my friend was Jewish and that being Jewish is like being Christian but they read from the old testament exclusively but they don't believe in Jesus.
Which a while later caused me to spend all night crying because I put the two and two together of: Believing in resurrection Sunday and that Jesus was gods son is what got us into heaven and I cried worrying one of my closest, sweetest friend and her nice family would go to hell. Then school, which had always been easy, became hard. Which made me feel dumb. Especially since my self worth was put into how smart I was and I wouldn't dare get below an A or high B because I was scared I'd get punished. Like the time I slammed my fingers a metal door on accident and spent the next fifteen minutes in tears and my mom told me if I kept crying she'd take me to the hospital to have them cut off my fingers. Because of moments like that disappointing my parent or having to big of an emotional reaction was not okay and it made me scared and uncomfortable. They knew I was struggling, they were the ones who stayed up till four something in the morning with me trying to explain the concept. But with every minor and major struggle I felt like my worth was slipping away. But the better I did in school the more my outstanding grades became the expectation which resulted in acknowledgement for my academic achievements disappearing. I felt like I was falling apart so I'd spend hours pray and begging god for help. To take the feeling of being worthless away. I developed an eating disorder sometime before ten. Specifically binge eating. My parents would find the trash, not understand that it was more than just "the sin of gluttony" and yell which made me feel threatened and eat more food.
And then I'd pray on my knees on the hard wood outside my room door with nails and splinters in it and hurt myself because not only was I a dumb glutton but I also apparently wasn't good enough for god to save or help. It made me think if he wants a relationship with me so bad why does he ignore me? I'd hold a knife to my wrist when I'd wash dishes to see if I felt him then. I questions if I'd even go to heaven. For all my problems the answer was to pray but the problem was I'm doing that but my prayers aren't being answered. I was having thought of death no twelve year old should have. On my birthday I was like a puppet simply going through the motions. Then I started questioning my sexuality. Not to mention, I'm now cut off from the world because this is all during covid, on the bright side they gave me my door back. Now I'm older and I have questions like. How was Adam able to name all the animals and understand god not wanting him to eat from the tree and their need to stay in the garden, but not comprehend his nakedness? How was Eve able to be tempted and not understand her nakedness? Why did they and apparently god think being naked was wrong? How are we not all messed up from tons of inbreeding and how do animals still exist after the inbreeding the would've occurred after Noah's ark if he only saved one male and female of each species? Why did god want to flood the Earth and purge it of it's evil humans if he was the one who decided free will would be a good idea? Since he is perfect and all knowing their shouldn't have been a moment of let me make something I'll destroy, wait nvm. My parents have changed a lot since I was little and have let me go to therapy. Of course I have a Christian therapist. Which I wouldn't mind if it wasn't for the fact that every time I bring up trauma that's linked to religion or need advice in terms of how to change a bad behavior or over come anxiety the advice is to pray. And at times I feel like I'm in a moment of doubt she feel she should try and pull me back in. But they also said I have to volunteer in the childern ministry at church.
I used to work with children ages three to five. Now I'm in one to three. And it feels like I'm spreading propaganda. They tell me what to say and what the goal is for the kids to believe by the end of the month. After I can't help but feel dirty. I'm at the point in my journey were I don't believe. But I have to keep working in the childern ministry, I have to go to church every Sunday, my parents are both devotional authors with published books. I'm the only one in my family who doesn't believe both extended and intermediate. I just wanna know I'm not crazy. I feel like I'm being brainwashed or something. Like drink the blood and eat the body of Jesus!? It's all too much. And now that my parents know they're trying to make me go back to believing. And I listen to them talk and it's like I can't have a conversations with you. You put your faith above all else. You believe whole heartedly, my point of view is automatically wrong to you because faith trumps logic so why would I share it with you? But at the same time it's majority of the music they play, it's all their advice, I go every Sunday, my classmates and friends are majority Christian and yet I even though I see the flaws and hypocrisy, I still can't help but wonder, am I the crazy one?"
"My grandma would grab me and call me "big booty Judy." And my butt was grabbed, spanked, and frequently talked about. Sometimes she'd just sit there tapping it while she talked. It started when I was around three or four and just continued. Though now I'm in my teens and rarely see her. But my breast were also a topic for a while. Comments like "where'd you get those from?", "she's bigger than you.", and "her sisters the tall one but she's the curvy one." They felt icky but I didn't dwell on them. But she's also an alcoholic along with many other things. She dated my mom's friends when she was in college, gets shit faced in at events like birthdays and funerals. Shakes her ass on family members and frequently offered us alcohol. But I always took pride in being her favorite grandchild. Which she constantly reminded me I was. She also has a serious spending problem. But the funny thing is. She goes to a church church. She's in the choir and used frequently as a look example. She hosts church events and potlucks. She even remarried in the church. Never mind the things I just said that'd be considered sins. She's the perfect Christian woman."
"How do you cope with the level of disrespect? I'm not eighteen yet, but I'm still able to be disrespected. My main problem is the disrespect from my parents. My parents who wish to be respected in their beliefs and don't want their minds to change. But at the same time, my dad has sent my scriptures and stuff for the past couple of months since it came out. I don't believe in God or Jesus. They force me to serve and volunteer at church and attend every Sunday. They paired me with a not so ethical Christian therapist. Then both gang up on me about it and take my silence as defeat when I'm just respecting their beliefs. I'm literally the only non Christian in my family. I also have mental problems from staying with them and just in general, but they won't test me because I don't behave in such a stereotypical manner. I want to say they love me, but does someone who blatantly disrespects you love you? I'm having a hard time with seeing if I should do something as drastic as no contact after I reach a certain age.
But at the same time their those awful parents who don't just blatantly suck but also have messed me up quite a bit, resulting in me not feeling like I have a right to be upset. I've told them about how Christianity mixed with their parenting drove me to suicidal thoughts, almost going through with it, and an eating disorder I'm still battling. I also can't just leave and close the door behind me. I'm the oldest, and their are two more kids just like me, and if I turned my back on them, I'd never forgive myself. They're my siblings, but they're also what stopped me from going through with the bad thoughts I was having. They need someone who will be honest, say the weird things, and answer the ignored questions. So, how can I deal with the blatant disrespect so that I'm around for them? What skill for stress management can I use? How do I block out the constant religious gaslighting that happens in church? Because I have over two more years of this."
"My dad said if people don't wanna have a baby, they shouldn't have sex even if they're married. But sir, you had three babies while financially unstable because you couldn't keep your damn hands off my mom. You were planning me, but your job fell through, and when my mom went to get back on birth control, it was too late, so I'll give you a pass with me. But my siblings were both surprises. So, quit judging and practice what you preach. But that's not what pissed me off the most. He said women will put all their time into work and not their husbands, and that's why some men cheat, but the way he said it, it was like he was justifying it. But my dad, he'd go to hooters alone, and when I needed tights, he got them from a woman their and it made me think what if. And I know it's stupid, but that what if. It is so loud.
And it's not even the first time he's said something along the lines of justifying it and almost blaming the woman who gets cheated on. But then he likes to be all up in arms about how his friend married a woman who cheated on him multiple times. My dad's like, I wanna pour into my kids but then makes no effort, and when we spent time with him, we had to initiate it. He doesn't do the hey you wanna . . . stuff. But he has his own company, and they can't get any work right now, so he spends most of his time at home. And then says I'm just to tired to spend time with ya'll.
My mom was sick to the point of being half passed out in a drive-thru after taking my brother to karate and having to pick up dinner. I would've offered to drive him if I could. I'm still leaning, and I'm bad at staying in one lane. But my dad was really busy on his PS5 with his made-up football team. So busy he couldn't take my brother to karate nor could he pause his game to get dinner. I'm kinda starting to hate him. He's also done a couple of other things, but that's what recently has made me mad. But I don't feel like I have a right to be mad because he's here and a lot of my friends dad aren't, and he's not physically abusive like my best friends dad is. I just don't know how I should feel. Is everyone's dad like this?
Edit: It's mothers day and he couldn't be bothered to get the food, pick up the groceries, nothing. #1Dad guys."

So is it truly a horrible go no contact at eighteen situation, a be watchful situation, or is it fine? I know some of this stuff is a lot but some of it was also in a moment of extreme emotion. Remember like I said in the beginning they're not always like this.

2024.05.15 01:11 KeyAcrobatic2564 Question for straight women, do you feel this way around other women or I'm not straight after all

In 2020 during the pandemic, I started to question my sexuality, and during that time I started to notice some feelings I had for some women, for example: being nervous around me, blushing whenever they spoke to me, having fantasies in which they thought I was beautiful and funny, If there was one nearby I would try to do something to make her notice me, in a room with several people I could feel her presence, I couldn't stop looking at them. Is this attraction?? I've felt this all my life around some women, including a teacher when I was 14, i was very nervous around her, when she spoke to me I froze, and when a girl held my hand to dance and I was very nervous because I thought she was pretty, another girl on highschool, and a friend of mine, we where friends for four years and I've had those feeling all those years, and also some women I see on the street.
I'm confused because I feel way more nervous around women I think is pretty, I think of ways of making them notice me and can't stop looking at them, with men I can talk easily to them.
I'm very confused because idk if it could be insecurity, I'm 23 but if you look at me in the street you would think I'm 16 and that doesn't makes me feel good, so idk, how can I know the difference, I've never looked at those women and desired to be them, there's a lot of pretty women that I don't feel this way about, I feel this way for specific women.
When I kissed a man for the first time I felt nothing, I only kissed him because I haven't kissed anyone and I was getting older, and idk if I was ever attracted to him, I've met a lot of nice guys, but I would always ran away when they asked me out, I had a highschool male friend that I thought I liked him, one day we went out alone (not a date) and I felt nervous the entire time ( not good nervous) I was so afraid of someone seeing us and thinking we were dating, one day I went to the cinema with him and another female friend, he was gonna sit next to me and I didn't even think i just said " you really going to separate us" then I sit next to my female friend.
I consider myself as a Attractive person, the only thing that I don't feel good about myself is that I look way younger than I am
Sorry about my English

2024.05.15 00:52 h0p4bright How do a 20-30y adult make new friends nowadays in Liège ? Especially when you are no more a student

I've been trying for a while. It's been on and off. The last 6-10 months I've been trying to focus on my well being.
I have met a few people but they are not always regular at the place I go. I prefer interacting with people face to face because writing message can get messy and confusing especially for me since I have anxiety easily (there is something called Text anxiety, it fits me well😂).
I haven't made friends yet but I'm already in a better situation, just learning to be surrounded by people, interact with them. I've had a hard time because of bad (we can even say evil) people at work the last 14+ months and it's almost finally over.
One of the people I met told me about his friends and said that some of them , he met them online with Instagram.
I am really curious how in 2024 people meet new people ? Especially with social medias.
I'm not a real fan of that and I barely use them except for sending memes, reels, publish a few things. Anyway, social medias are not my whole life at all. But I can see them as a tool. Meeting apps are not for me ,I've tried.
Hobbies, I have tried, just that it is a matter of luck I guess. People just come for the lesson then disappear as soon as the lesson is done.
Im thinking about taking language lessons for fun. I wonder how are Japanese or Dutch lessons in Liège? From university of Liège
I would like to try hip hop dance next school year so I'm waiting for the dates to try for free the dance lessons. I already dance and it's fun, just that people aren't here for socializing, just dancing which is a pity and there are only women. I thought it would be great but no one has the mindset to make new female friends. Well, I enjoy dance so I keep going there for myself basically. Making friends was a bonus if it happened. I am just disappointed but I got over it since then.
Everyone say I'm stil young, I stil can make new friends. I really do believe that mostly I haven't met the "right" people yet. I'm seeing a therapist for a year now, so don't worry guys, I'm trying to take care of myself and work on myself too !😀
It's kind of weird to be born here and even for Belgian, it's hard to make new friends if you know no one basically. I am not that extroverted and I wish I had more friends to hang out with.
I also wish to go to concerts for example, but since I'm 25F, and I'm not confident to go alone especially I don't feel safe going out alone, it's something I have to give up. There are things I do sometimes alone like movies when there are films I really would like to see ,and I don't need anyone to watch it so I'm fine. But I just wish I could enjoy idk, drinks, bars, concerts, fun parties open to everyone, enjoy conversations with friends of friends and such.
I feel like missing out. I know friendships and love relationships are overrated. I don't need that many friends, but just a few ,is enough if they are genuine and sincere ! It's so basic and it's so hard to find
I've read many posts of the subreddits of Liège, Belgium or Wallonia where so many people have a hard time meeting new people AND making long lasting friendships. What the hell is going on ? I know how Belgian are, I was born here after all. The people I've met the last years, they often keep staying with their close friends from school hobbies or whatever, and they never bother getting to know new people. That's such a pity. Even myself I find Belgian being closed off, hard to interact with. We can only meet other people through events hobbies, etc, when we don't know anyone at all. It's really luck when we meet the right people for us quickly. Lots of attempts can lead to nothing for many people.
Sometimes I'm tired of this situation, but whenever someone hurt me (it happened in January this year, I cut off contact with this person she didn't respect my feelings and my pain), I just feel like I prefer being alone, at least I don't have to care for anyone else other than myself.
That's why I try to keep taking care of myself more, while keep trying to meet new people , just not all the time. I don't give up. Just I take a lot of breaks from it. I think I feel better this way, going to places regularly without waiting anything, getting used to people again, and getting to know new people when it's mutual.
How is your life going on ?
I just wish life would be like movies 😂 going to a party like in the US where you know no one, and then you make new friends at the end of the night 😂 except that I did do that in Spain when I was at a Youth hostel, partied at night in club till late at night, but at the morning people didn't care at all and went on their ways. Dunno about Liège though, I just don't feel safe in the square.

2024.05.15 00:29 Skubi__ Me and my 10 years older friend have I weird dynamic

Ok, so I(20f) study with this guy(30m), we met at university. As I discussed in my other post it’s mostly boys there, so it’s inevitable that I spend time with them. I need advice. He has had a girlfriend(29f) for past two months, but during the time we know each other ( around a year) , he’s been making it very clear that he likes me, even before he was in a relationship . I would say he sort of acts as my protector and he very clearly admires me as a woman, although I am more than 10 years younger . We are both I’m the same friend group, and there were instances were we went partying together. What I want to say , is when he gets drunk, he very openly manifests his feelings towards me. He never did anything inappropriate or sexual with me. I know it’s wrong, bc he has a girlfriend, but I need to admit he is very hot, and sometimes when I’m drunk I fall for his flirts (for example he says I am he’s baby girl) and there were instances when we were cuddling or dancing together, nothing more. I don’t know how I feel about this, since I think this man is acting very wrong towards he’s gf, but also I am worried that I am catching feelings for him I need advice

from PM Pashinyan's speech at Copenhagen Democracy Summit:

PASHINYAN: Democracy has indeed become a reality in Armenia. Before the 2018 Velvet Revolution, massive electoral frauds were the usual companion of elections in Armenia. There was no trust among the citizens that there was a real chance for them to elect the government.
Now the situation is totally different; citizens know that they are powerful enough to decide. The two general elections that were held in Armenia after the Velvet Revolution have been acknowledged as democratic, free, and competitive both by the Armenian society and the international community.
Armenia made huge progress in strengthening the democratic institutions, an achievement reflected in reputable democracy indexes:
(a) Now we are the 43rd in the Reporters Without Borders’ Freedom of Speech index, compared to 79th place in 2017.
(b) Categorized as having partially free internet in 2017 by Freedom House, now we enjoy the status of a country with free internet.
(c) In Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, Armenia is now 62nd instead of 107th in 2017.
(d) In the Economist Intelligence Unit’s democracy index we are 84th compared to 111th in 2017.
In order to assess this progress, it's essential to note that alongside democratic reforms, Armenia has been contending with external security challenges: the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan's invasion of Armenia in 2021 and 2022 and the occupation of over 200 km2 amid inaction by [Russia's] CSTO, the forced displacement of over 100,000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, have cast doubts among Armenian citizens weather democracy is the right choice. So, democracy needs to prove its efficiency while dealing with security, economic and humanitarian challenges.
We are pleased with the deployment of EU monitoring mission alongside the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, and we welcome EU’s decision to expand its capacity. On the other hand, we hope for the inclusion of Armenia into the European Peace Facility and in this regard, we rely on the support of all EU member states [Hungary].
A new set of commitments aimed at strengthening Armenia’s economic resilience, state institutions, and addressing the humanitarian needs of refugees has been taken on by the European Union and United States during the high-level meeting on April 5 in Brussels. The rapid and effective implementation of those commitments is of utmost importance.
Despite all the challenges, we believe that the real and most aspiring companion for democracy is lasting and sustainable peace. My government took the share of its responsibility for this. Recently we reached an agreement with Azerbaijan to launch the delimitation of our interstate borders on the basis of the Almaty Declaration of 1991. That means that during the delimitation we should simply reproduce the Soviet-era administrative borders. This is the implementation of the agreement reached in Prague in 2022. Now it is time to incorporate and reflect those agreements in the peace treaty and have it signed.
Another key point for our regional stability is the «Crossroads of Peace», project, initiated by my government. This project implies that Armenia and Azerbaijan restore and open transport and other communications in accordance with the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries through which they pass, and comply with the principles of equality and reciprocity. These elements of the concept were agreed upon during the July 2023 meeting with Ilham Aliyev and Charles Michel. //

... Politico reporter's Q&A with Pashinyan

REPORTER: [Ex-NATO leader] Anders Fogh Rasmussen called your neighbor an autocracy. You are in a very difficult geopolitical and geographical position. How do you solve the security problem in that environment?
PASHINYAN: I would not like to comment on the internal situation of our neighboring countries. Democracy fully corresponds to the mentality of our people. It is a strategy for our government, it is our political belief, it is also our political identity. The members of our political team have spent most of their lives fighting for democracy, the rule of law, and freedom of speech. Now we have the opportunity to realize all these values in our country.
The security situation was complicated because of the regional and global situation; the world order is collapsing at the moment. My assessment is, and I have had occasion to say this publicly, that the 2020 war was a prelude to further developments. And now the main issue is security.
What is our strategic point of view, how are we going to guarantee the security of our country? Recently, I gave a speech in our parliament, where I said that the most important tool for ensuring security is a foreign policy based on legitimacy. This is the reason why we so often speak about the 1991 Almaty Declaration.
It is very important that during the 2022 Prague meeting, two very important agreements were reached. Armenia and Azerbaijan recognize each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty on the basis of the Almaty Declaration and will use it as the basis for the border demarcation. This is the reason why I said that we are not drawing a new border, we just need to reproduce the existing one on the ground. This process is happening right now, and I hope that we will continue it steadfastly.
REPORTER: The border conflict that has occurred in recent years has had a negative impact on relations with Russia and Russia's role for Armenia. What would you say about this?
PASHINYAN: Armenia is a member of CSTO. We are officially a CSTO member, but I have announced that we have frozen our participation.
REPORTER: So are you still a member or...?
PASHINYAN: It is a matter for further discussion, but it is very important to record the current situation. A crisis arose in our relations after Azerbaijani troops invaded Armenia, and according to CSTO procedures, the Organization and its member states had to support Armenia in this situation. But even after the formal application, the CSTO refused to take any concrete steps, and in fact, that is the main reason for freezing our participation in the CSTO at all levels.
REPORTER: Do you expect the West to occupy the current vacuum and ensure your security?
PASHINYAN: We are diversifying our foreign relations in all spheres. Now we are developing defense cooperation with India, France, and other countries. We have a certain cooperation with the European Union because as I mentioned, we are happy about the deployment of the EU Civilian Observation Mission on the border. It is a civilian mission but in a way, it is a new factor for the security of our region. This is the first time that the European Union participates in the security agenda of Armenia.
REPORTER: Would you like to become an EU member?
PASHINYAN: We are waiting for the EU's decision to include Armenia in the European Peace Facility. We also hope to start visa liberalization negotiations, and last year I announced in the European Parliament that Armenia is ready to be as close to the European Union as the European Union deems it possible. This is our position.
REPORTER: Can you elaborate on what initiatives Armenia is taking in the fight against corruption?
PASHINYAN: We have made huge progress but have not eradicated corruption from Armenia. We must continue to be persistent in the agenda of democratic reforms. This is the reason why cooperation with the European Union is of utmost importance for us because today the European Union is our main partner in the implementation of our democratic reform agenda. We hope that the European Union, as well as the USA, will increase their support to Armenia in the implementation of democratic reforms, because, as I said, democracy is a strategy for us.
By the way, in 2019 we started a Strategic Dialogue with the USA, and today we see the strengthening of our cooperation with the European Union. We recently had a tripartite meeting with the participation of the USA, EU, and Armenia. It was an unprecedented format, where we adopted a huge agenda of institutional and economic reforms. It is also very important that we receive more tangible support from the EU and the US to address the humanitarian needs of the Nagorno Karabakh refugees because it is a very sensitive and emotional issue for us.
REPORTER: In which year would you like Armenia to become a member of the EU?
PASHINYAN: This year [as soon as possible]. //

former regime continues to hold protests and briefly shut down roads in Yerevan with demands for PM Pashinyan's resignation

Dozens of participants were detained and released the same day for blocking roads. The detentions decreased from 170 on Monday to ~63 on Tuesday. They want Pashinyan to resign or to be impeached. The protest organizers visited universities to gather student supporters, some of whom joined them with a dance. The organizers also stopped by at a bakery where they were given free food.
A felony investigation was launched after a police vehicle, "with the sirens on", struck a reporter on the street. In another instance, an investigation was launched against a protester who brought a long sword. One other case was launched over alleged threats made on Facebook by a Galstanyan fan who wants scores of people to be beaten in dalans and exiled from Armenia, "մենակ էտ դեպքում էս սրբազան հողը կմաքրվի էս տեսակ շան ծնունդներից, ուրիշ ձև չկա!!!!"

Yesterday the protest co-organizer Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan said he received a report suggesting that the Deputy Rector of Yerevan State University supposedly urged deans and others to retaliate against students who joined the protests. Galstanyan said he was unsure whether the report was true, but decided to read it out loud anyway. On Tuesday he rallied his supporters to the backyard of the University where he demanded to speak with the Deputy Rector for clarification.
The Deputy Rector went downstairs and greeted Galstanyan, who shook her hand but wouldn't let it go for an uncomfortably long period, prompting her to ask him to let go of her hand. The Deputy Rector declared that whatever Galstanyan read about her was a defamatory lie.
GALSTANYAN: I never believed it myself.
DEPUTY RECTOR: Then you should not have said out loud something you did not believe.
GALSTANYAN: Listen, there is a recorded fact...
DEPUTY RECTOR: Where is that "recorded fact"?
GALSTANYAN: It was on the media. As I said yesterday, I had no verification that it was true, which is why we came here to clarify it. If it's false, then I apologize.
DEPUTY RECTOR: Thank you. //
The Deputy Rector urged the protest organizers not to enter the building or disrupt the classes, and that "anyone who wants to follow you can follow you, anyone who wants to stay in classrooms should stay in classrooms".
The angry Deputy Rector left. Another university official criticized Galstanyan for not checking the information before reading it to his followers. Galstanyan said he stands behind his words, and that he was "just reading what was on the media", but reiterated that he had no intention to insult the Deputy Rector.

In front of the crowd, Galstanyan introduced Hambig Sassounian who recently joined his movement. In related news, on Sunday a ruling faction MP complained about receiving death threats with reference to Operation Nemesis.

DANIEL IOANNESIAN (NGO chief): When this protest dies down, we need to discuss the following: (1) The transparency of political and media funding. There are some regulations in place, but they are incomplete and easily bypassed. For example, I'd like to know who paid for Archbishop Galstanyan's giant stage in Republic Square. In 2018 Pashinyan organized a fundraising for it and disclosed a detailed report. (2) Should the media organizations that do not respect the rules of financial transparency enjoy all the mechanisms for the protection of journalists? (3) Are the customs authorities confident that the church is not facilitating the business activities of certain figures disguised as donations? (4) Is it fair for the church and clergy members not to pay taxes? Should they be able to have a Bently and LX570 without paying taxes? [The "Bentley" is based on a true story.]

2024.05.14 23:38 notGeronimo So Just How Fast (or Slow) Is George Writing? (Spoilers Published)

As has been very well established, The Winds of Winter is taking a while, so I wanted to go back and look at how fast George has written, and possibly is writing now. I've had to make some assumptions and estimations, for example I can find no firm date for when he started AGoT, only that he did after 3 months of working on a different story that started in the summer of 1991. So I picked November 5 1991, as this is 3 months after the middle of summer that year. He has also at many times taken a break from writing, or focused on other projects, but I could find neither a complete list of those times (BryndenBFish I miss you) nor could I figure out a fair way to determine which breaks "count". I counted each book as being done on its publication date, which is also not accurate, but again, I could find no firm dates for when various manuscripts were totally and completely finalized.
I have also had to estimate anything related to the Winds of Winter. Since it is not out. I used his October 2022 estimate of his own progress, 1100-1200 words (I split the difference for 1150) and 400-500 to go (I again split the difference and went with 450). I also had to use his ADWD ratio of manuscript pages to published pages, and his average across all 5 books of 409 words/page.
Here is what his pace over time has looked like
Or in graph form
And cumulative words over time
As you can see, even if Winds came out today, it would have been written at 60% of the pace of his previous slowest book, Feast. The pace of Feast and Dance is interestingly close to that of AGoT. George had a massive amount of work to do fleshing out the world during the first book, and was distracted writing on other projects. Which is actually a pretty good parallel for the struggles he had clearing the Meereenese Knot and after abandoning the 5 year gap, while also dealing with the (at the time) upcoming TV series.
Also, if Winds were finished today, or any time soon, it would require a massive increase in pace since his 2022 comments. He would have to have written 218 words per day since October 2022, up from the 77 he was at through that point. Sounds like we're unlikely to adjust that projected completion date
I also took a look at what the words per day of Winds would look like if released anywhere from January 1st 2016 (based on the infamous notablog) and May 14 2030, 6 Years from now. For reference, the projected release date of Winds using his 2022 estimates of how much he had done and how much was left, would put it at around April of 2027.
Here
If George hit his old estimate of 2016, he'd be at 257 words per day, back in the range he was when writing the first 3 books. He averaged 320/day across this stretch. This is sounds somewhat reasonable, he had allegedly cleared the worst of the Knot and the lack of the gap, which would in theory allow him to return to the pace of Clash and Storm, which likewise followed a book that required significant prep and groundwork. Sadly he has fallen well below even the lows of Feast. It appears whatever is stopping George from writing for the last 20 years, be it writer's block, difficult interconnected plots, not giving a shit because he's rich, too many side projects, or any other explanation, it isn't going away, and is far worse than it has ever been. For reference, this post is 672 words, and it would take George 8.86 days to write it at his current pace, or just over 1 day at his pace from Storm. While a Reddit post and a novel are nowhere near the same effort, comparing it to Storm is much more fair and gives an indication of just how slowly he’s writing

2024.05.14 23:31 surprisedkinder Childish Gambino's "This is America" is Actually a Drake, Jay Z and Diddy Diss

Before going into it, I want to mention how this post was inspired by three things. One was user u/HastyvonFuego2 and their post on going down the rabbit hole on the Kendrick sub last week. It was also inspired by Childish Gambino’s first album release in nearly 6 years where I have been sitting on this idea for a while but he inspired me to finally post this week like he did (never posted on Reddit at all before so be gentle if I am not doing it right)! I was also inspired by an interview Bino gave to GQ about breaking down his most iconic characters. In this interview he says how This is America started out as a Drake diss but then he realized the song was too hard for just Drake so he kept working on it. He also talks in this interview about how all culture is about compression. Which means that yes, This is America is about the gun violence and police issues in America, but compressed in this video is also more about where that culture comes from which he shows is from a small handful of rap moguls, namely Drake, Diddy and Jay-Z (bear with me on this long post, I think/hope it will be worth it). At the end I talk briefly about how Little Foot Big Foot might be in this same vein of cultural compression.
[Intro: Choir]
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, go, go away
The beginning of this song has no background music yet, which really gives it an ‘in the beginning’ feel. Then Gambino starts doing his dances with weird facial expressions. I will explain as we go through his video how those expressions and dance moves represent different famous rap moguls. One easy look to pick out right away is Jay-Z’s famous lip curl/growl look that Gambino gives with a head nod repeatedly. The colonial pants have been a hot topic, but since it’s only the pants that are colonial, Gambino is saying the bottom or basis for this violent culture in America is ultimately colonialism. The lyrics ‘Go Away’, are likely foreshadowing the rap moguls wanting other popular rap rivals to ‘go away’ or they will make them (aka murder them) for profit.
[Bridge: Childish Gambino & Young Thug]
We just wanna party
Party just for you
We just want the money
Money just for you (Yeah)
Usually you want money for yourself and to party for yourself, so this is a bit odd. But what Gambino is referring to is similar to these Diddy ‘freakoff parties’ we are hearing about where people who want to be famous are really partying for these rap moguls so they can get close to them. Where they suck up to them saying that they want to earn the mogul money from their songs.
I know you wanna party
Party just for free
Girl, you got me dancin' (Girl, you got me dancin')
Dance and shake the frame (Yeah)
Then this almost feels like the Diddy rebuttal where he’s like ya I know you want to party and you want to do it for free. Like Katt Williams says, “you gotta tell Diddy no”, it is never free to go to those parties. There are always consequences. When you are partying you are dancing, but shaking the frame could refer to how those boundaries/edges are being crossed, lines are blurred, etc.
Then in the video, the fellow who was playing the guitar gets shot and things turn dark from happy music. I believe that this guitar tune is meant to represent 2Pac and Nas’s song Thugz Mansion. It’s one of the original greats from ‘in the beginning’. Nas famously has always had major issues with Jay-Z too (More on why 2Pac and Nas later). It also represents how it was these moguls who murdered 2Pac like Jaguar Wright and Katt Williams keep saying. Where these murders only lead to more money and fame for the killers when the dead artists’ and their music are exploited more easily.
Also note that the gun gets taken away by a school kid after the shooting, more on this later as well.
[Verse 1: Childish Gambino, Young Thug, Blocboy JB & 21 Savage]
This is America (Skrrt, skrrt, woo)
Don't catch you slippin' now (Ayy)
Look how I'm livin' now
Police be trippin' now (Woo)
Yeah, this is America (Woo, ayy)
Guns in my area (Word, my area)
There is a song called Guns in My Area by Lil Weiner and Baby Chapox that paints a vivid picture of the everyday struggles and conflicts faced by those living in communities affected by gun violence. More compression of other songs and the American gun culture.
I got the strap (Ayy, ayy)
I gotta carry 'em
I am almost certain this line is referring to 2Pac’s song Changes. Throughout This is America, Gambino takes lines from Pac’s song: “They get jealous when they see you with your mobile phone” (referred to later in this a Celly, that’s tool) “That's the sound of my tool, you say it ain't cool, My mama didn't raise no fool”
“And as long as I stay black, I gotta stay strapped, And I never get to lay back” It seems like Gambino broke up these lyrics and scattered them throughout his song. This plays into the theme that everyone is using 2Pac and enriching themselves off of his image and music. I show below how this particular section of the video represents Diddy meaning that Diddy himself is exploiting his music (and alleging that Diddy killed Pac?). We could see this exploitation play out at length with how much Diddy milked the death of Biggie like in Every Breath You Take.
Yeah, yeah, I'ma go into this (Ugh)
Yeah, yeah, this is guerilla (Woo)
Yeah, yeah, I'ma go get the bag
The song Gorilla War by $uicideboy$ and Ramirez talks about getting a bag repeatedly in the course. Also in Otis with Kanye and Jay-Z their lyrics talk about going gorilla (I talk about this song more further down), so it could be referring to this as well. It seems like Gambino is trying to pull out lyrics from all across the rap culture and embed them in his song to highlight the ‘cultural compression’.
Yeah, yeah, I'm so cold like, yeah (Yeah)
I'm so dope like, yeah (Woo)
We gon' blow like, yeah (Straight up, uh)
I think that all of the school kids in the video represent all of the rappers that are signed with these big labels. Which is interesting because they are the ones facilitating the guns for the moguls in the video. You can see that the mogul is really focused on the kids and gets agitated and directs them to follow him whenever they stray off a bit like they are his pupils, or like he owns them. Then all of a sudden the camera comes into a scene where you can see more kids shooting a rap video and all shooting money from a Supreme gun. The camera zooms out almost to show you that this is the mogul’s whole rap empire they are looking over, all of their kids in one place (this empire already includes some chaos in the background). It’s subtle but hilarious, Gambino puts fricken chickens on the ground where the kids are filming the rap video. He is directly calling all of these rappers complete chickens for playing up this lifestyle and being the cause of so much chaos rather than coming out and telling somebody what’s really going on. Trying to get their money over everything else.
[Refrain: Choir & Childish Gambino]
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, tell somebody
You go tell somebody
Grandma told me
Get your money, Black man (Get your— Black man)
This is where things start to get interesting. Gambino is literally saying, go tell somebody about this! We all know what’s happening, why don’t you go let people know how bad it is? But like Jaguar Wright said, who do you tell when these moguls have the cops and feds paid off? This video is literally Gambino putting it all out there in this extremely popular song for everyone to see but yet we still just see the dancing and the violent chaos of people and police in the streets and not the root cause that is hidden in plain sight.
The vast majority of those who reviewed this video until now think this scene represents the tragic church shooting in Charleston in 2015. I think it does, but we also have to look at this from an angle of compression.
The people in the choir are all of the people who are currently singing the rap mogul’s praises and who are focused on going and getting what’s owed to them, get their money (who are also profiting off of the dead fellows music since it goes back to the original tune). You can see that each choir member has a distinct look to them. Think about who you are hearing about now who is about to be implicated in these freak offs and evil deeds. Is that Will Smith in the back left corner!? The short bald fellow in the front left maybe Kevin Hart? Rick Ross or TD Jakes maybe the bigger guy towards the back right? When the camera zooms in on the choir right at first to show their faces, doesn’t the guy in the bottom middle look like an uncanny version of Jordan Peele? Or is that meant to be Cuba Gooding Jr? Then just like the guitar fellow at the beginning, bang. You may be singing Diddy’s praises now, but he will cut you down whenever he suddenly feels like it.
I think almost for sure this initial section of the music video is Gambino acting as Diddy, because right after he shoots the choir, he does the elbow pump/chicken dance. At 3:14 in Diddy’s video for P.E. 2000 he does the chicken dance (he is up first in the video and I think Gambino is trying to say here I first present to you the first public enemy of 3 in this song). That elbow dance signals that it was Diddy and this is the end of his section.
[Chorus: Childish Gambino, Young Thug, Slim Jxmmi & Quavo]
This is America (Woo, ayy)
Don't catch you slippin' now (Woo, woo, don't catch you slippin' now)
Don't catch you slippin' now (Ayy, woah)
Look what I'm whippin' now (Slime!)
There have been many accounts of celebrities being given fancy cars after suffering abuse at the hands of these moguls. So these lyrics are saying that you better not slip up and tell people what’s really going on. And if you don’t look at this sweet carecord deal/movie contract I am going to give you. Beiber told this story about Diddy wanting to give him a luxury car.
Now suddenly, the dance switches from the chicken dance to a sudden bicep flex to signal us that we have now moved on from Gambino representing Diddy to our next mogul.
[Verse 2: Childish Gambino, Quavo, Young Thug, 21 Savage & BlocBoy JB]
This next chunk of the video is all about Jay-Z. I think this is the case because he throws his arms up in a bicep flex just like Jay does in the Otis music video at 2:38. And it makes sense Gambino would pick a dance move from a video with a huge American flag in the background to fit the ‘This is America’ theme. Gambino is mocking him saying, who are you really, the pretty guy or this hard gangster like Gambino shows in his dancing. Also right before they pan to the kids on the balcony, Bino also does Jay-Z’s signature lip curl look a couple times so we know it’s him and to signal the end of his section.
Look how I'm geekin' out (Hey)
I'm so fitted (I'm so fitted, woo)
Jay-Z is famous for making the fitted Yankees cap famous, it’s his signature look. More signs this verse is about Jay.
I'm on Gucci (I'm on Gucci)
Jay-Z has been seen in full wallpaper Gucci sweat suits but could also be referring to Gucci Mane who he hung out with at Beyonce’s tour around the time this song was released.
I'm so pretty (Yeah, yeah, woo)
I'm gon' get it (Ayy, I'm gon' get it)
Watch me move (Blaow)
These lines are probably referring to Jay-Z having a hidden preference for men, especially with the way Gambino flicks his wrist in the video when he says I’m so pretty.
This a celly (Ha)
That's a tool (Yeah)
On my Kodak (Woo) Black
I think that “this a celly, that’s a tool” harkens back to 2Pac’s lyrics in Changes where he sings, “They get jealous when they see ya with your mobile phone” then shortly after that he sings about the sound of his tool, referring to shooting a gun. But Childish flips these lyrics on their head. He is saying that it’s really the phone that’s a tool to be using, not a gun. And pans up and shows (the school kids specifically) on the balcony filming everything going on below. He’s telling the kids/other rappers, use your phone as a tool, you can record these bad deeds when you get blackmailed into being at the freak off. That’s how you can kill them and their career, not with a gun. Go tell somebody! There is also the reference to Kodak which plays into the picture taking theme, but also because Kodak Black has been accused of assaulting a teenage girl in a hotel room. So we have a good idea of what Gambino suggests all the kids start filming and collecting evidence of.
Ooh, know that (Yeah, know that, hold on)
Get it (Woo, get it, get it)
Ooh, work it (21)
Now we are onto Drake’s part. In the video Gambino starts doing the BlocBoy JB dance called Shoot. Drake is known for doing these little viral dance moves like in Hotline Bling. But not only that, this dance is also used in the song that both BlocBoy JB and Drake collaborate on for their video Look Alive. It starts at 2:07 in the Look Alive video. So this is Drake’s dance to signal his part is now starting.
Note this is where the pale horse rides by also potentially saying that Drake is one of the horsemen of the apocalypse. Interestingly, Drake’s collab with BlocBoy JB was pretty much the apocalypse for BlocBoy’s career, who hasn’t had a hit since.
Hunnid bands, hunnid bands, hunnid bands (Hunnid bands)
Contraband, contraband, contraband (Contraband)
I got the plug in Oaxaca (Woah)
They gonna find you like "blocka" (Blaow)
Again, we know this is Drake’s section because his song 10 bands starts out by saying “10 bands, 50 bands, 100 bands” almost identical to Bino’s lyrics here. Also Blocka was famously used by Biggie in his song Gimme the Loot which could be referring to Biggie's demise like Pac’s and making money from his death. Everything in this industry originates from pushing drugs, which has been alleged through the trafficking that Diddy, Jay-Z and Drake do through their private jets likely connected to their bosses, the Clive Davises and Lucian Grainges of the world. This escalates rap beefs and the whole culture to the next level where murder is often a consequence for young rappers in their prime when international drug lord money is involved.
An interesting point is this is the only time where Childish was about to shoot someone in the video, but where he didn’t have a school kid either handing him the gun or taking it away carefully from him. (Maybe also a diss at Drake that even though he acts hard he doesn’t shoot, he gets his horseman of the apocalypse to do his dirty deeds for him instead perhaps?). This is the beginning of the end for the rap mogul as he no longer has his kids doing his bidding for him. A simple message to show how the violence can be stopped, that these shootings can end when the kids stop enabling them. So then as soon as he can’t react in that moment and shoot someone his anger is forced to chill out, as shown by smoking a J, and to go back to exploiting the dead man’s music instead. If you don’t put a gun in someone’s hand when they are heated, those feelings too shall pass - kinda feel.
[Refrain: Choir, Childish Gambino, & Young Thug]
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, tell somebody
America, I just checked my following list, and
You mothafuckas owe me
Whose voice does that sound like!? It sounds a lot like Diddy to me, public enemy #1. This is basically saying that the moguls are the ones who we all owe it to for all of this glorified gun violence in America. That we owe them way more follows and likes for what a massive influence they have had on the violence and chaos we see in America today.
Grandma told me
Get your money, Black man (Black man)
(1, 2, 3—get down)
In Moneybagg Yo’s song 1, 2, 3, he also has a line that says “1, 2, 3, let’s go!” in a similar vein.
But something interesting I came across was Nas’s song Get Down where they use a sample from James Brown's “The Boss” that sounds extremely similar to the way Gambino screams “Get Down!” Which would fit well if the guitar singer from the beginning is meant to be Nas and Pac doing Thugz Mansion.
Also make sure you check out Nas’s song Get Down so that you can hear how much Jay-Z outright copied this song for The Story of OJ. From the musical structure with the piano and interwoven samples right down to the theme reiterated by the sample at the end of Nas’s song: “If that’s how our people are gonna get down, how are we ever gonna get up?”
SZA
Finally to wrap up the video, I have been stumped for a long time as to why SZA is randomly at the end of this video sitting on one of the cars. But I think I finally know why and it reconfirms that this last scene is all about Drake. If you watch Drake’s music video for Worst Behavior (not very Canadian of him to spell behaviour that way I might add) you will see Drake rapping and dancing with a few cars surrounding him and one of those cars has other rappers making cameos in it. In Gambino’s video SZA represents that car with a famous cameo. I think this is further confirmed when the black edges of the video start closing inwards at the end of This is America, the exact same way that Worst Behavior ends. So why SZA as the cameo then? Cause it reminds people that Drake is a p*do.
This is from an article in the Rolling Stone: In 2020, Drake revealed publicly that he and SZA had dated over a decade ago, well before she was an established artist (her earliest music goes back to around 2012; her critical breakthrough, Ctrl, came in 2017). On 21 Savage’s “Mr. Right Now,” Drake rapped about a newer fling who was a fan of SZA’s: “Yeah, said she wanna fuck to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08 / If you cool with it, baby, she can still play.” A few days later, SZA responded, corroborating Drake’s claim with a slight correction: they dated in 2009, when both would have been over 18. Since SZA would not have turned 18 until late 2008, she wanted to set the record straight. “in this case a year of poetic rap license mattered 🥴lol I think he jus innocently rhymed 08 w wait [sic],” she tweeted. “I just didn’t want anybody thinking anything underage or creepy was happening . Completely innocent . Lifetimes ago . [sic]”
If you have to specifically say something isn’t creepy and distance yourself from it being lifetimes ago, it usually is creepy. Drake would’ve been 22 when she was 17. Metro Boomin also happens to be on the Mr. Right Now track. He is currently in trouble for resurfaced old tweets showing how Metro used to tweet disgusting things about what he wanted to do to underage girls. Interestingly, Metro Boomin is also now beefing with Drake.
Drake doing his dance on the car of the original musician’s music seems to be accusing Drake directly of stealing 2Pac’s music. Orlando Brown recently said the cryptic statement that “Drake is Pac” which likely means he stole 2Pac’s approach/style/audience after his death. Gambino did some good foreshadowing here too with the recent AI release Drake put out of 2Pac.
This dance scene also signals that the Drake section is now over.
[Outro: Young Thug]
You just a black man in this world
You just a barcode, ayy
You just a black man in this world
Drivin' expensive foreigns, ayy
You just a big dawg, yeah
I kenneled him in the backyard
No, probably ain't life to a dog
For a big dog
The outro lyrics speak to how these gatekeepers keep black men down and control them with things like being forced to wear a dress to become famous or to submit to homosexual/p*do acts.. In the video, as I mentioned above, the black edges close in on Drake’s dancing scene in This is America. But they don’t completely close and end things like they do in the Worst Behavior video. Instead, in Gambino’s video, the camera pans to show the mogul running for his life with Young Thug’s lyrics almost like a quiet echo in the background. He isn’t running from the cops though, he’s running from the kids and from the public. When I mentioned earlier that the kids not handing over the last gun before Drake’s scene signalled the beginning of the end for the moguls, this is that conclusion. Where it is showing that if all the kids come together to stop enabling and rather expose the moguls, people will be chasing these bastards down once we realize what has been going on behind the curtain. Then the song that Young Thug is singing can just be a quiet echo of the way things were in the past.
If you don’t think Gambino would be this deep and that I went too far down the rabbit hole, do a Google search on the calculations that he came up with for why he sings about loving until 3005 in his song. He seems to go real deep with his lyrics. So a big question this leaves us with is, what did Childish Gambino witness in the rap industry? His whole rap career plays out like he is trying to avoid industry norms.
Even in Sweatpants, he has lyrics like:
No hands like soccer teams and y'all fuck boys like Socrates
You niggas ain't coppin' these, niggas ain't lookin' like me (Nah)
Nah, I ain't checkin' I.D. (Nah), but I bounce 'em with no problem
Seems like he is trying to make it really clear across his catalogue of music that he isn’t a p*do but that other rappers are. Where he is saying that he doesn’t need to ID his potential partners because he can tell they are obviously too young and that’s not hard to do.
Tell 'em, Problem (Problem!)
I'm winnin', yeah, yeah, I'm winnin' (What?)...
Rich kid, asshole, paint me as a villain
So who was trying to paint him as a villain, Drake? And that’s why the diss was originally meant for him?
Don't be mad 'cause I'm doing me better than you doing you…
Better than you doing you
Fuck it, what you gon' do? (What?!)
He’s taunting the other rappers cause he knows they can’t say shit if they are creeps. He has the same sentiment in Bonfire “It’s a bonfire, turn the lights out, I’m burning everything you mother fuckers talk about.”
Childish Gambino has always refrained from talking about the meaning of This is America whenever he is asked, and I can only assume that all of this is why.
Little Foot Big Foot
Now with his new release, Little Foot Big Foot and applying cultural compression to it, it has me wondering if he is referring to Megan Thee Stallion and the Nicki beef? People like Nicki (calling Megan Big Foot) have been claiming for some time she wasn’t even shot in the foot by Tory Lanez. There were many people laughing and making fun of Megan over getting shot. Which could be an interesting story for Childish to tell to represent how crazy this violent culture has gotten that people just laugh and blame the victim now when you get shot. Also a good metaphor for things like ‘shooting yourself in the foot’ for not having a lawyer look over potentially predatory industry contracts like in the beginning of his video. That you want to get in the cool kids club so bad you overlook it. Not as sure on this one though since the song just came out and I have only heard it a few times.
One last thing that is really interesting, there have been tons of artists on podcasts like Shay Shay talking about the strings these ultra rich moguls can pull. Like buying awards or gatekeeping people from being in the industry at all. There was even a story, I think maybe it was Gene Deal who told it, that when Killer Mike won at the grammys that Jay-Z was so angry he made sure to mess up his night by getting him locked up as soon as he left the awards stage. These moguls are extremely powerful and have an incredible amount of sway in the world/industry. If you check out Gambino’s profile on Youtube, his old music videos keep getting taken down, like Bonfire for example is just gone. Fans have been having to upload the videos themselves. There is a reply to a comment, on one of the fan uploaded vids, from Gambino’s account himself when someone asks why the videos are being taken down. His account just replies “Noone knows why :(“ Seems a bit odd all things considered and like maybe he has been at the mercy of these gatekeepers for going against the system.
I am so curious to know what the rest of you think about all of this!

2024.05.14 23:26 Pflynx Wilkowm tå de westfuylske språk!

Westphalian
The westphalian language (not to be confused with the real world westphalian dialect group) is an ingvaeonic language spoken in, well, westphalia. It developed closely with the anglo-frisian languages, though is not one in itself, merely sharing some commonalities with the branch.
Phonology: (i tried to display this in a table, but reddit sucks, so take a list instead)
Consonants
m,n,ŋ,
p,b,t,d,k,g,
f,v,s,z,ʃ,x,h,
ɹ,j,[ɰ],
ɾ,l
Vowels
ɪ,ʏ,ʊ,
ø:,
ə,
ɛ(:),œ,ɔ(:),
a(:)
There are also 4 diphthongs! Those being /eɪ̯/, /aɪ̯/, /œʏ̯/, and /oʊ̯/.
Grammar:
The grammar is quite simplified from its Proto-West-Germanic origins, with nouns having 4 total stems they could be. Those being (using PG derivative terminology) the a-stem, ō-stem, n-stem, and r-stem. The r-stem, though, only contains seven kinship terms. Whilst the a-stem and ō-stem are direct descendants from PG, the n-stem is more of a combination stem of multiple stems ending in *-n. Nouns in westphalian are divided into two genders, common and neuter.
In terms of cases, nouns (and adjectives) can only inflect for two, those being the nominative and objective. The genitive is maintained though, in pronouns. Apart from that, nouns (again, and adjectives), also inflect for the numbers singular and plural.
I will move on to adjectives first, as it is an easier bridge from nouns. Adjectives only have one inflection pattern, instead of the multiple stems nouns could have, and this inflects for all the same things as nouns, but also strong/weak inflection, the predicative, and positive/comparative/superlative. Standard stuff.
Verbs also only have one weak inflection pattern left, though there are still some strong verbs that have different inflection patterns, the vast majority are weak verbs, which inflect using the same pattern. This pattern inflects for a few things, let's begin with person. It inflects for 1PS, 2PS, 3PS, and a general plural form. In terms of tenses, there is the present and past tense (more can be expressed using auxiliaries, this is just what they inflect for). Moods consist of the indicative, subjunctive, and imperative. Apart from that, they also have an infinitive, and a present and past participle.
Examples:
"Welcome to the westphalian language!"
